Bryce
I walked up the front steps to the Moon Light Pack House. It wasn't as big as my pack house of course. My pack house can host 200 guests. My guess is this one can only host 50 guests. It was made of cobblestone bricks and, I have to say, quite beautiful white trim. Their pack flag was posted proudly in the front surrounded by wolfsbane.
Humans are so stupid for thinking wolfsbane is what kills us. Yes, silver does, but a flower? No. Wolfsbane is used in our beer actually. Because we are so hot and our blood pumps fast, alcohol doesn't stay in our systems very long, but wolfsbane does. It does have a side effect though. it makes us bluntly honest. We do use pure wolfsbane to make a truth serum for our prisoners.
"Are you coming in or going to gawk at our flowers all night?"
I snapped my head to the musical voice. Elise stood on the steps of the pack house in a purple silk dress. Her blond hair was down and blowing slightly in the breeze. I never realised her hair was so long. Almost to her bottom.
"I was admiring your choice of flower for the base of your flag," I replied with a shrug.
"Wolfsbane blooms at night time in direct moon light. It makes sense. My mother planted them for me. My wolf's name is Moon Runner. She said they always brought out my eyes" she quietly replied.
I finally took a good look at her eyes. I got lost in them. They swirled blue and lavender together. It was the most perfect combination. I've never seen eyes like that. In human form, werewolves have normal human colors. In wolf form they are usually blue, black, or brown. What makes her so special?
"I'll explain inside. The Elders just left. They couldn't stay long. But they did give me the answers I was looking for," she turned and walked into the house.
We walked down a long hallway. The lights above were nothing special, simple chandeliers, yet they some how seemed to glow brighter than the stars in a full moon sky. They hard wood floor must have just been waxed because I could see myself almost as clearly as looking in a mirror. Pictures of couples hung along the wall, but there was one that stuck out to me. The frame wasn't the same as the others. This one was black with a gold stripe around it. The couple in the frame didn't look old at all, maybe mid-forties. The man's green eyes were looking straight ahead and seemed to glare into my soul. His smile showed that he was having the time of his life. I could see a little gray mixed in with his brown hair. The woman was looking toward the man, her hands laid delicately on his shoulders. In her eyes all I could see was love. There was no doubt in my mind that these two were in love. He was sharply dress and she was in a white flowing dress with her blond hair flowing behind her.
"That's my mom and dad. They were the only Alphas ever killed while in charge, hence the black frame. This was taken soon after they found out my mom was pregnant with my brother," Elise said quietly, standing behind me.
"They look so in love. So happy," I replied, looking back at her.
"They were. My dad would do anything for my mom. My mom was just too free willed and wouldn't listen to my dad too well. I guess that's where I get my free spirit from."
Elise started walking away. I reluctantly tore myself away from the picture. I remember feeling that way when my mate was still alive. Her smile was still fresh in my mind. Even when she was dying, she always had a smile on her face. Her mangled body floated across my thoughts and I pushed it back. My wolf whined at the image.
"Mate" He cried.
"I know, buddy, I miss her, too."
We walked through a door that had an office behind it, or what used to be an office. The bookshelves were gone, but the outline on the wall remained. There was just a desk covered in papers and a laptop. Elise walked over and started straightening out the papers and closed the laptop. She was clearly nervous. Her hands shaking, her forehead was slightly sweaty, and she was talking to herself.
"Okay, are you ready for this overload of information that I have been holding in?" She looked at me through her eye lashes. Why was she acting shy now?
"Lay it on me. I want to get the hell out of here," I nearly growled at her. I still can't believe that I was in a She-Alpha's home.
"You are my protector. Both you and Blaine. I don't know if you noticed my eyes, but they are different than most others. I am a descendant of the Moon Goddess. Not like her in a new form or directly descended from her. She blessed my blood line to have this happen every so often. I am a, oh, I don't know how to word it. A guardian of the werewolf blood line, set it right again. There hasn't had to be a guardian born in almost one hundred years. I guess just recently, before you or I were born, it fell apart again. Thirty years ago, there was an Alpha for the Alphas. The Elders at that time thought it was unnecessary for that Alpha to belong. The essentially got him killed off. That Alpha was my father's uncle. The Alpha of all Alpha's was apart of my blood line. Those Elder's were mysteriously killed soon after. Elder Thomas said it looked like the Angel of Death, herself, came and took them to be with her. There was just their bodies and a single gray feather, no blood, no wounds, nothing," she paused. She looked to me as if making sure I was following okay.
"Go on. I'm following okay," I said, nodding in reassurance.
"That's why our Elders have only been on the board for thirty years. And they wanted no one to know what actually happened. They decided it was best to tell every one that the old Elders were retiring and decided that fifty years on the board was long enough. Of course every one thought that was weird when Elders are on the board for life, as long as they possibly can live. The last guardian of the werewolf blood line, my mother's mother, died two years prior to this due to old age. My grandmother's worst enemy and her best friend were her protectors. Blaine is my best friend and you, well, you hate me. Does this make sense to you? That's why we feel a pull toward each other. That's why you attacked Blaine in the club. You didn't know it, but you thought you were protecting me," she said, getting more and more excited toward the end.
"So your telling me that I am suppose to protect a SHE-ALPHA? Oh no. I am NOT doing such blasphemy! You can have Blaine help you with this nonsense. Who do you think I am? A weak little Alpha like you? I am the most powerful Alpha in the Untied States o-"
"Actually my brother is. He is supposed to be the new Alpha of the Alphas. You are not the strongest Alpha in the United States, Simon is. Don't say this is just about me being a She-Alpha. I know you don't like women after your mate. Now I don't mean to be rude and bring this kind of thing up, but the Moon Goddess did this for a reason. We are rewriting history and reliving it. How can you be like this? So cold and horrible. I've done nothing but be kind to you and hospitable. Can you give me any credit for what I have accomplished?" Her eyes swirled faster and faster between the lavender and blue until they finally turned a electric blue with a dark purple haze to them. This was the voice that I heard during her speech at her ceremony.
"You know what, you are right. I don't like she-wolves anymore. When you lose your mate, you'll understand why. I saw my soul mate get ripped apart and killed right in front of me. Do you know why? Like your mother my Helena was free willed and didn't listen very well to me. She wanted to go for a run and I didn't have time to go with her. I let her go alone. I was supposed to meet up with her. I knew there was rouges in the area. But that's not what made me pissed. It was the fact that she had all the warrior training, the best to offer, and she couldn't protect herself. I should have known, she-wolves cannot protect themselves. Let alone a whole pack." With that I turned on my heel and stormed down the hallway. My wolf was near the surface.
"Wait, I'm sorr-"
I didn't hear the rest. I stormed out the door and jumped into the air. My wolf was happy to be free. His paws hit the ground and felt the dry dirt beneath his paws. He ran passed my car and down the road into the black, inky night.
