Bryce

Her mouth was soft and warm. She didn't fight me at first, probably because she was startled at my attack. Then, as if she realized what was going on, she pushed on my chest. She was stronger than I thought and she was able to push me back and actually make me stumble back a few steps.

"What the hell was that?!" She yelled at me. Her hair fell in her face so I couldn't tell if it was anger or fear on her face.

"I-I don't know. It just felt.. right," I stammered, like I was a little school boy talking to my first crush.

"Never touch me again. You leave this place and never return. You had no right coming here and defending me like I was a little kid. I am the Alpha of this pack. I am the one who has to defend my people. You are not allowed back into this territory unless invited by me or my Beta," she seethed. Her eyes were swirling between blue and dark purple. Those are not her normal colors.

"Is this what you truly wish? To banish me?" I asked quietly. I'm not sure why all of a sudden I felt like I could show this side of me to her. The real Bryce. The soft Bryce.

She sighed, "I don't know. Bryce, I-I just feel like, Goddess, I don't know! My wolf is screaming at me to kick your ass out of here, but a part of me wants to jump on you and kiss you again."

"Elise, I don't know what this feeling is that I'm feeling either. I want to hate you, but I just can't. I think about you constantly. We haven't had very many encounters, but I think- I think I'm falling for you."

Her face dropped as if I just said I killed her puppy. She walked slowly over to her desk chair and sank down into it.

"I'll leave. I'm sorry. I won't be back," I turned and started to walk out. I half expected Elise to stop me, or try to at least. I got to the doorway and looked back to her. She had her head in her hands and her hair was in her face so I couldn't see her face. I turned back and continued to leave the home.

Two days later

That day was still replaying in my head. Things I should have done or what I should have done differently. Would we be together right now? She still hasn't found her mate. Goddess, I'm ten years older than her! I can't do this to her!

"Bryce, you 'kay, man?"

I snapped my head up to see my Beta standing there. He knew what happened. He didn't know what to make of my feelings either.

"I'm fine, just thinking," I said, walking away. I needed to go for a run.

Elise

I was walking to the pack house with Blaine. We just came back from a party, so not gonna lie, I'm pretty buzzed. We came back because I wanted to get some different shoes. Heels are not easy to dance in.

"You can come up to my room while I change if you want to," I said, walking up the stairs.

"I'll wait down here," Blaine chuckled as he watched me fumble up the stairs.

I quickly grabbed a different pair of shoes, some white flats, and ran back down the stairs. Blaine was on his phone with a grim look on his face. He hung up his phone as he saw me coming down and plastered a smile on his face.

"What's going on?" I asked.

"Nothing, just some rogue spottings on my land. Shall we go to our bar?" He asked as he held out his arm.

"Yes, please," I said, smiling and looping my arm through his. I needed this. After everything Bryce has put me through, this was my time.

At the bar I danced my ass off. I had a few too many drinks. I was grinding with every guy, well, until Blaine peeled them off of me and replaced them so no one else could come and rub their business on me.

Then it hit me. The smell of summer mornings mixed with some strawberry. My wolf howled with pleasure. I spun and twirled, looking for the source of the smell but there was too many. I pointed at the door to Blaine and mouthed that I needed some air.

I walked outside where there was a few smokers and asked to bum one. I never usually smoke, unless I am this drunk. I stood in the cool breeze feeling in my pockets and looking in my purse for my emergency lighter. Suddenly there was flame in my face, lighting my cigarette for me.

I turned to thank whoever it was and was met with dark chocolate eyes and the smell of summer mornings and strawberries.

"Mate," we breathed together, just before our lips crashed together.
