Freshman Year: September

"Why are they looking at me like that? I narrowed my eyes at the four girls that were currently eyeing me from head to toe, scanning my every part. Austin shrugged not seeming to care the slightest bit.

After buying my lunch, I made my way over to the table containing both Austin and I's small group of friends and that's when I noticed them looking in our direction; mine to be more précised. I had seen them around before and I'm pretty sure the brunette was in one of my classes but other than that, they were complete strangers.

And then just as if it couldn't get any worst, one of them turned around and whispered something into her friend's ear right before they all started hysterically laughing amongst themselves. As if on cue, I felt my blood start to boil and anger rise within me in a matter of seconds.

"Relax," Ethan purred into my ear while grabbing my hand "They're just jealous. Don't worry about it." Letting his words sink in, I nodded while turning my attention back to the people sitting across and beside me.

They were jealous? Why would they even be jealous to begin with? Was it how I looked or was it because I was with a guy they liked?

Sighing, I prompted my elbow onto the wooden table and slowly started to play with my food. My hunger had suddenly faded away and I found myself wishing I was back home in the comfort of my bed. I hated when people did that because it made me feel self conscious, insecure even.

"They envy you," the voice spoke up again "They're jealous because they could never be as pretty as you are."

I let his words linger in the air knowing that he was probably right, I still needed to get used to the whole high school thing. It was about two weeks into school and everything was brand new. To say the least, it was a nice change.

I hated middle school the utter most because I didn't fit in. I was always the outcast that could never associate with anyone except Austin but that's a whole different story considering he didn't even go to the same school as I. Sure I had my friends but it was more than obvious that they were fake but still, I stuck with them for a whole two years of my life. Now, we pass each other in the hallways and don't even acknowledge our existence, as I said, they were fake.

The people I hang out with now aren't like that at all, I can actually have a conversation with them without it being forced or unwanted. And what makes it all that better is having Austin there with me. If there's one person that would never leave my side it would definitely be him.

Running a hand through my silky hair, I smiled in return thanking him for his kind words. Ethan was always so sweet with everyone and I understood perfectly as to why Austin hung out with him; they were so much alike. And maybe that's why I liked him so much, he reminded me of my best friend.

Shifting my gaze upwards, I happened to catch a glimpse of a pinned piece of paper on one of the cafeteria walls and it's then when a smile instantly made its way to my lips.

"Hey guys," I chirped catching everyone's attention by surprise "I've been thinking and I'm going to try out for the team."

"What team?" Addison asked.

"Cheerleading."

Smiling, Kaylee nodded while taking a bite out of her apple "I'll join you."

"Really?"

"Yeah," she shrugged "It could be fun."

Smiling even bigger than what I was initially doing, I couldn't help but let out a shriek of excitement to the new found news. I always wanted to be a cheerleader.
