│Freshman Year: June│
The lack of patience I now have is about as thin as a fishing line; close to none. I was uncomfortably sitting at my assigned desk while I tried to listen to the teacher going on and on about useless things we would never even dare to use in the future. I simply didn't understand.
Pretty much the whole classroom wasn't paying any attention and I wondered why we were even here in class; school was almost done with only three weeks left of freshman year. To say I wasn't ecstatic would be a complete lie because I was beyond that. Sure I had a good year and met some great people but summer was calling my name along with probably every other student in the school; I needed a break.
The sun was shining through the glass window by my right making me wish I could be outside instead of held captive in a room with a bunch of people I have no interest in. That was the thing about math class, I had no friends. Of course I talked to pretty much everyone but enough to consider them as my friends? Not at all and that's what made it boring. Math class consisted mostly of boys while the few girls that were there weren't even close to associating with me. Normally, at least one person from either my friends of the team was in one of my classes but not this one; I was completely on my own.
"Hey, Sadie!" I heard a familiar voice whisper from behind only making me turn around to see their face. "What are you doing tonight?"
"Why?" I blurted out almost immediately. I wasn't going to cave in like all the other girls, I wasn't like that. To say I was hard to get would definitely be an understatement because truly I was always on my guards no matter who it was. I enjoyed playing with them.
"Well I was thinking and you know considering it's Friday and all I figured that maybe-" he stopped thinking through was he was going to say next but my answer was already clear as day, I didn't need to hear the rest. "Maybe we could hang out? Go to the movies or something?"
I shot my eyes down only to bring them back up a second later and scan his face, he looked nervous. I was trying to think of a good reason to turn down his offer but that was obviously easier said than done. Since the beginning of the year, I couldn't even begin to count the number of guys I've turned down exactly like this, there were so many. It almost felt as if every guy in my grade had tried to hit on me at least once even though that wasn't the case at all, it was always the same type though: bad boys. Sure they were hot and all but I knew what they wanted, everyone knew actually and that's why I never got with them, I wasn't about that.
"I really appreciate your offer but I already have plans, sorry."
His face turned to disappointment almost instantly as he nodded in understanding trying to keep a smile onto his lips. I didn't know what rejection felt like but I'm sure it was one of the worst feelings in the world; it basically took away all of your self confidence and left you hanging in shame.
"It's okay," he shrugged "Maybe another time."
"Yep." and I turned around bringing my attention back to the board. When I said I was busy it wasn't a complete lie considering I did have plans but I still felt bad enough, it would eventually pass. It took about another twenty minutes before the bell rang and everyone hurried out of the class as if their lives depended on it. Idiots.
The first thing I noticed when I stepped into the hallways was the drastic change in vibe since the beginning of the year; it was way more relaxed. Everyone was shouting, pushing, having fun as I tried to get to my locker all in one piece. It was only when I turned to corner and felt a sudden object hit me direcly in the face that I dropped everything I was holding.
Everyone went quiet or to say the least, I heard a few gasps coming from here and there. Looking down at me feet, I tried to understand what had just happened and it's when I saw the football lying beneath me that everything made sense.
