The storm is over by the time the next morning rolls around. The clouds are still gray, though. Snape gives me my schedule as well as everyone else's in Slytherin. I have Charms first, and so do the rest of the Slytherin fourth years. Breakfast includes donuts, and Grier gets mad because she recently started to be gluten free, so she can't eat them. The mail comes, and I'm surprised to see a tawny owl lands in front of me. It holds out it's leg, and I take the parcel that it holds.
"What's that?" Ash asks.
"Dunno," I say.
"Open it, then!" Grier says. I open it, and it's a small, silver necklace with a green A on it. I wonder who it's from. Harper voices my thoughts.
"Wow, that's so pretty! Who sent you that?" she asks.
"I . . . don't know," I say. "There's no note."
"It looks like you have a secret admirer," she teases. I laugh.
"Me? Never." I'm about to put it on when Grier stops me.
"Hang on, it might be cursed! Specialis Revelio." Nothing happens. "I've always wanted to use that spell."
"Well, your superior knowledge of Defense Against the Dark Arts has helped us before, but obviously it's just a normal necklace," Ash says.
Grier glares at her, "It was for fun."
"Okay, okay, sorry," Ash apologizes. She knows not to get on the bad side of Grier when she's being deprived of donuts.
I put the necklace on, "It is really pretty though, and it IS real silver. Must've been pretty expensive," I say. The large bell rings, so we have to go to our first class.
In Charms, we learn how to do the Summoning Charm. Which I suck at. Terry, my partner, is great at it. He's making small objects zoom to him from all over the room. I can make the objects move a little bit, but not very far. Professor Flitwick finishes congratulating Terry on his work. He turns to me.
"Let's see you do it, Fidler," he says. Oh, no. Here comes the extra homework. I point my wand at a small object.
"Accio paper clip," I say. It moves a couple of inches, but it doesn't come all the way to me.
"Try flourishing your wrist a little bit more," Flitwick says. I try it.
"Accio paper clip," I say again, flourishing my wrist a bit more. To my surprise, it lands in the palm of my hand.
"Very good," Flitwick praises me. "For homework, try practicing on larger objects. A book, for example? You'll have it by next class."
"Thanks, Professor," I say.

Our next class is Care of Magical Creatures. Hagrid is standing with his boarhound, Fang, by his cabin. There are several crates open at his feet, and they rattle loudly. Well, these definitely aren't flobberworms. The Gryffindors are already there. We hear Hagrid talking.
"On'y jus' hatched, so yeh'll be able ter raise 'em yerselves! Thought we'd make a bit of a project of it!"
"And why would we want to raise them?" Draco asks, looking in the crate. They're not so bad. "I mean, what do they do? What is the point of them?" I shove him lightly.
"Stop picking on Hagrid," I whisper. He just shakes his head.
"Tha's the next lesson, Malfoy," Hagrid says. "Yer jus' feedin' 'em today. Now, yeh'll wan' ter try 'em on a few diff'rent things ― I've never had 'em before, not sure what they'll go fer ― I got eggs an' frog livers an' a bit o' grass snake ― just try 'em out with a bit of each."
