It's September 1st. My birthday was yesterday, I got a lot of presents. Even Mr. Malfoy was nice to me. At least I didn't get electrocuted, like poor Max Dillon in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. But I digress.
Draco and I go our separate ways when we get to the platform. He always sits with the rest of the Slytherin guys, and I sit with the sisters. They can't shut me up about the World Cup. Emma, Jade, Ash, Audrey, Grier, and Max want to hear all about it, we're the sportier ones out of the sisters. Jade and Grier both want to try out for their house Quidditch teams this year. I hope they make it, although I wouldn't want to play against Jade as a Chaser, she's lethal.
We talk about what we did over the summer. Grier stayed home, and she's annoyed because her brothers are joining this year. She hopes they're not in Slytherin. Jade traveled around playing soccer. Her youngest brother is also joining this year. Emma and Kyara went to Portugal. McKenna is also joining this year. Audrey visited her uncle in America again. Mia went to Colombia. Isabella went to El Salvador. Ash stayed home. Anna went to Ireland. All this talk about siblings joining is making me sad, Cole would've joined this year.
When the trolley witch comes, we stuff ourselves with food. As we're eating, a thought occurs to me.
"Do you guys know anything about this dance we're having?" I ask.
"What dance?" Kyara asks, panicking.
"Well, we had to buy dresses this year, so obviously we're having a dance," Grier points out, seeming annoyed.
"Have there ever been any dances for fourth years and up?" Emma asks.
"Fred never mentioned anything," Anna says.
"Neither did George," Jade agrees.
"So what could it be?" Isabella asks.
"Maybe it's a one-time thing," Mia guesses.
"Probably," Ash agrees.
"But why dresses? I hate dresses," Max complains.
"I love dresses!" Audrey exclaims.
We end up just showing each other our dresses, since the possibilities for why we need them are endless. We have to change into our robes now, so we do. The weather is terrible, I'm glad we're riding in the horse-drawn carriages. When we get there, all the sisters get their own carriages. Since it's four to a carriage, and it's so crowded, I don't get put with them. I end up finding Ginny and riding with her. She's also with two other girls that I don't know, but one of them is dressed in the Slytherin uniform. I sit next to the Slytherin.
"Hey Ginny," I say.
"Hey Ashlyn," she replies. "Luna," she gestures to the girl she's sitting next to, "this is Ashlyn. She's in Slytherin and she's a year older than us. Ashlyn, this is Luna."
"Hi Luna," I say.
"Hi. Are you okay? Your head is full of Nargles. They fly in your ears and make your brain go fuzzy," she says.
"Well, I'm tired and my brain is fuzzy, so I wouldn't be surprised," I say. "And hi, fellow Slytherin," I address the girl I'm sitting next to. "What's your name?"
"H-harper W-wilson," she stutters. Oh, she's shy.
"I'm Ashlyn, nice to meet you," I say, smiling. She gives me a shaky smile back. "What year are you in?" I ask her.
"Third," she says.
"Cool," I say. "Just out of curiosity, did any of you have to buy dresses for this year?"
"No, only fourth years and above do, I expect they're having a dance for the older kids," Ginny says. "Ron had to buy some dress robes." Okay, what's with this mystery dance?
