The next two days are uneventful. History of Magic today was as boring as ever. Binns gives us loads of homework about goblin rebellions. At dinner, all of the Gryffindors are buzzing about their Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson.
"Moody showed us the Unforgivable Curses!" Jade tells me.
"He used them on spiders," Weasley shudders.
"He says the Ministry thinks we're too young to see them, but that we need CONSTANT VIGILANCE, he kept saying that," Max says.
"Don't spoil the whole lesson!" I exclaim.
"Noah, he can see through things with his magic eye!" Lavender tells her twin.
"Oh, I know that firsthand, he saw me through a wall," I tell Grier.
"That eye is weird," Ash says.
"Be careful, he has good hearing too," I warn. Ash laughs.
When we get back to the common room, we have to start on our essay on goblin rebellions.
"How will this help us in life, anyway?" Draco asks.
"It will if we're going to become magic historians," Charlie says.
"But no one here wants to be a magic historian," I point out.
"Too much work," Alex says.
"What do you guys want to become when you're older?" Ash asks. "I know it sounds like a childish question, but it's still worth thinking about."
"For each occupation, you have to get O.W.L.s in certain subjects, I hear," Noah says.
"Then I'm going to do nothing involving Transfiguration," I say. "I'm glad I have only two more years of it, because I know I'm going to fail my O.W.L."
"Well, maybe you could go into Potions!" Grier says.
"And you could become an Auror," I say. "Or be a fortune teller and creep Muggles out."
"I might do that just for fun with my accurate predictions," Grier laughs.
"Divination is a load of rubbish, I can't predict anything," Draco says.
"I can sometimes," Noah says. "But it's hard."
"I see stuff all the time, Divination isn't something you can learn out of a book," Grier says. "It comes naturally. Some people just aren't made for it."
By the time we finish our essays, it's late. I'm one of the last ones to finish, only Draco and Charlie are still awake. Grier's sleeping on the couch. Charlie rolls up his parchment, says good night, and goes down his hallway. I finish about two minutes after him.
"Well. . . good night," I say hesitantly. Ugh, why do I still get so nervous when we're alone?
"'Night," Draco says. I go down the girl's hallway, open the third year's door, realize my mistake, and go into the fourth year's dormitory. I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow.
