"His name is Jared," Lance says as he passes by the living room on the way to the kitchen.
"How did you find that out?" Jim asks.
"Well, Leann told me, but I have his wallet as well. Truth to tell, I didn't even think to check it." Lance shrugs carelessly it was much more preferable for Leann to tell him. There is a connection with Leann that he didn't think would happen so soon. Perhaps it's due to the healing he gave her.
"Leann told you?" Jim raises his eyebrow. "I didn't know she was awake to speak."
"She just woke up and now I'm off to figure out how to make food for her. Unless of course you'd like to?" Lance offers, and Jim backs off.
"No, this is fine, really. Go ahead and make food for her," Jim says backing away from the door to emphasize just how good he was there.
"Wuss," Lance says leaving the room. Fortunately when the bought the house it had come fully stocked with everything. They'd gotten it cheap since it was so far from anywhere, the former owners had just about despaired of ever selling it.
Jim's laughter follows him into the kitchen.
Lance had watched many humans and many tv shows as they made food. He figures out how to open the can as he takes out a pot. He reads the directions on the can. Should be simple enough, dump in the can and heat it up. He'll just have to be careful to not let it burn.
He stirs the soup and he watches the steam rise, he's not sure how to tell when it is ready. Once it starts to simmer he figures that it's ready to eat. He turns the heat off and looks for a dish appropriate for the soup. He's not sure if a bowl or cup would be better and finally settles on a bowl. He finds a spoon and takes the soup up to Leann.
Leann had fallen asleep again. Lance isn't sure if he should wake her up or not. He decides that she can sleep after she eats, in fact she'll probably sleep better with food inside her.
"Leann, wake up, I have your food here," Lance says going over to gently wake her up.
Leann wakes up and smiles at Lance. "You are the best thing anyone could wake up seeing."
Lance gives her a blinding smile, delighted at her response. He hadn't done anything to her to get that response either.
Leann for her part finds herself hard to breath. She can't help herself she reaches up to touch his face but Lance takes her hand and sets it down gently.
He shakes his head no and just helps her sit up. Leann blushes and is careful to not touch his hand when he hands her the bowl. She blows on the soup before she takes a bite. Before she realizes it she's finished the bowl. Lance takes it from her.
"Now, Leann you should get some more sleep. Perhaps I shouldn't have awakened you," Lance looks at her worriedly. Leann hadn't looked at him since he stopped her from touching his face.
"Are you embarrassed that I stopped you from touching my face?" Lance asks the girl that has turned away from him and now faces the wall.
"Goodnight Lance, thank you for the food." Leann snuggles deeper into the covers and refuses to answer Lance's question.
"Leann-" Lance starts to say then he hears a sob. He leaves the room and turns off the light. She's been through a lot and needs her sleep. He'll send Jim up next time, he's becoming to emotional over this human.
Needing to let off some anger he returns to the living room.
"Jim keep your ears open for any calls from Leann. I'll be dealing with him for awhile," Lance's bad mood could be felt from across the room and Jim doesn't say a word.
Jim goes over and takes the dishes from Lance as he leaves the room. He still has a car to fix, he'll do that and then return to the house to keep an ear out for Leann. He doesn't know what's happened, but something must have to make Lance so moody. He'd been in a good mood before going upstairs with Leann's food. Something must have happened while he was with her. Perhaps he lost control?
He stops and changes direction to go and check on the human. When he gets upstairs he finds her crying. He makes a face and goes over to hold the human, he has no idea how to comfort a female.
"I did something wrong didn't I?" Leann says through her tears. "That's why he sent you."
"He didn't send me Leann, he's cleaning up downstairs and I just came to check up on you. What happened?" This is what Jim really wants to know.
"I'm not sure. We were fine then I tried to touch his face and he put my hand down and the whole atmosphere changed between us. I guess he just doesn't like his face touched or something." Leann starts crying again.
"Are you really that upset over something so small?" Really Jim doesn't know how to deal with this.
"I don't mean to make him angry and I'm pretty sure that he is. Your name is Jim is it not?" Leann speaks through her sobs.
"Yes my name is Jim. You have't done anything to anger him. I think he's just angry because you were hurt and there is no way he can take that away." Jim holds the crying girl.
"But that's not his fault. That's Jared's fault, he did this to me, or perhaps it's my fault for being such a horrible person." Leann says sobbing into Jared's shoulder.
The door slams and Leann jumps in Jim's arms. "Now he's angry. You are not to blame for any of this, this isn't your fault, Leann."
"But-" Leann starts saying.
"No, buts Leann, none of this is your fault. He lied to you, beat you and whatever else, it wasn't your fault. No one deserves to be treated like that. Lance is angry because you are taking blame for something you are blameless for. He doesn't, nor do I like it when females are abused. Well no one should be abused really. Now stop your crying and get some sleep. Things will be better in the morning." Jim is also angry but he knows better than showing any of that anger now or Leann won't believe him.
