"Please." Edmund said nervously. "Your Majesty, I don't know what you mean."
"What are you?" Jadis asked again. "Are you a great overgrown dwarf that has cut off its beard?"
"No, your Majesty, I never had a beard." Edmund answered the woman before him. "I'm a boy."
"A boy!" Ivory called out from her spot on the carriage causing Edmund's attention to turn to her. Her blue eyes were so mesmerizing Edmund felt himself freeze in his spot. Her voice was soft, and kind masked with a coldness that made shivers crawl down Edmunds spine.
"Do you mean you are a son of Adam?" Jadis asked looking from Ivory to the boy before her. Edmund stood still, his gaze still on the young girl, frozen in place unable to speak or move. Edmund felt as if the girl had complete control over him and by now he was too confused to understand what the question meant and to mesmerized to answer the woman. "I see you are an idiot, whatever else you may be," Jadis then said. "Answer me once and for all, or I shall lose my patience. Are you human?"
"Yes, your Majesty." Edmund answered.
"And how, pray, did you come to enter my dominions?"
"Please, you Majesty, I came in through a wardrobe."
"What do you mean, a wardrobe?" Ivory asked sitting herself a little higher as Edmund turned to look at her again.
"I- I opened a door and just found myself here, princess." Edmund said nervously to the girl before him. She held herself confidently and spoke in such a manner that made Edmund nervous that he could say something wrong.
"Ha!" Jadis called out causing Edmund to jump in his spot. "A door. A door from the world of men! I have heard of such things. This may wreck all. But he is only one, and he is easily dealt with." Slowly Jadis rose from her seat, eyes locked on Edmund, her arm slowly raising with her wand in hand. Edmund was nervous, afraid, sure that he was going to see his end.
"Mother." Ivory called out in a soft voice, the woman's eyes suddenly changed, and she slowly lowered her wand.
"My poor child," Jadis said in a softer voice. "how cold you look! Come and sit with me here on the sledge and I will put my mantle around you and we will talk." Ivory quickly stood from her spot on the sledge and sat across from her mother as Edmund stepped on taking a seat beside Jadis. With a smile on her face Jadis wrapped her white, fur coat around Edmund and pulled him closer to her.
"Ivory, dear, why don't you get out guest here something warm to drink." Jadis said looking to her daughter. "Should you like that?"
"Yes please, your Majesty." Edmund said with his teeth chattering while Ivory took out a small silver vile. Edmund watched the young girl before him hold out her arm and let a small drop fall from the bottle onto the snow. Edmund then watched as the girl reached down to the side of the sledge and come back up with a jeweled cup full of warm hot chocolate. Ivory then turned and handed it to Edmund with a kind smile that made him blush.
