Lavinia looked worriedly at her best friend while Callum focused on the floor of the carriage.

"What do we do now, Callum?"

Lavinia's mouth opened in surprise when Callum showed her his wide green eyes. He put a finger on his lips and shook his head at her. Her mouth shut in realisation that they could hear them from distance so she didn't need to fret and make it notice.

But how could she behave then when she knew that they were in danger. There wasn't any problem in showing the guards their stuff since Cliona too had been living in this city. Even more girls like her could be living.

But her grandmother had alerted them to enter the city as humans in order to avoid unwanted attention. Moreover, the guards had declared them as humans and if they got to see their personal stuff, they would directly doubt them and it won't be good.

Callum stiffened just as they heard the loud sound of iron bars screeching. She immediately picked out and noticed the big gate under a bridge made of stone bricks. Her jaws clenched when the arrogant Prince pulled the halter harshly making it neigh so loud and rode his horse through the gate. She could then hear the sound of approaching footsteps as she waited for the guards to knock on their carriage door again.

Just as it happened, Callum opened the door while fully displaying irritation on his face.

"Sir, we would like to see your luggage," said the guard sternly while his red eyes focusing on Callum.

Lavinia gulped when her best friend exchanged a blank glance but nonetheless turned and nodded at the guards. By now, the taller one must have concluded about Callum being a mute.

Both of them walked behind the carriage while Lavinia held her breath, still feeling her heart racing. She wanted to get down from the carriage and see what was happening. But Callum held her hand and nodded in understanding at her.

Her eyebrows knitted in confusion but her best friend shook his head with a sigh. The guards returned immediately and she was afraid if they had been caught.

"Coachman, you may start your ride," the taller one yelled making her eyebrows raised in shock.

"We are sorry for the inconvenience, my lady. But you may finally enter the city," the first guard said warmly while looking at her. She heard their horses neighing as the coachman must have hit the crop.

"Welcome to the Duskfort-The city of Vampires. May you both achieve your purpose of this journey. We wish you good luck," said the first Vampire and tears had started collecting behind her eyes. Her throat tightened in heartache and she was about to nod.

"Thank you, gentlemen."

The tall Vampire's eyebrows raised at Callum who was still giving a blank look but his eyes contained the passion that those words had formed. The Vampires grinned with a nod while Lavinia waved her hand before the carriage door was closed.

The vehicle moved enthusiastically and Lavinia felt a bit of achievement in her heart. If she had fooled vampires at thinking that she was human, then there was so much she could do to find her sister.

But she prayed, that situations won't get to that bad.

Suddenly, her eyebrows narrowed at Callum who was leaning back on his seat to rest himself. She shook her head in confusion at him.

"What did you do?"

With his calm expressions, she concluded that he knew what she was talking about. The loud screeching echoed in the way making Lavinia cringe. She peeked back at the way and noticed the gate was going down. Desperately, she moved back and looked at Callum.
