Payday for the company was every other Friday. Lexi was excited to get her first actual paycheck. Saturday, she went to the bank to deposit the check and take out money for her rent that was due. She tucked the money away in her purse and decided to stop at the mall and look for a few new business appropriate outfits and dresses. She had a little extra money from her paycheck and could really use some new clothes. While nothing really caught her eye, she was able to find a simple yellow dress that complimented her well. Lexi paid for the dress and headed out to the bus stop to wait. The ride home was unusually quiet for a Saturday. The rain must have scared people indoors. Lexi got off at her stop and slowly headed to her building while fumbling for her keys. She climbed the steps slowly. The sight of her door stopped her in her tracks.

The door had been ripped off its hinges, barely hanging on. Lexi stepped cautiously inside as quiet as possible. The living room was trashed. The couch was flipped over, the coffee table smashed. Lexi crept towards the back of her apartment towards her room. Voices had her stopping her in tracks.

"Doesn't look like she's here boss," a man's voice said.

     "No, it doesn't."

Lexi froze in her tracks. She knew that voice. Tony.

Lexi turned and quietly ran out of her apartment, down the hall and down the steps. She pounded on the door of her landlord, Mrs. Smit.

Mrs. Smit opened the door in her bathroom.

"What are you banging on my door for?" Mrs. Smit grumbled.

Lexi quickly stepped inside. "Here I have your rent for you this month. I also wanted you to know I'm moving out. Tomorrow. I'll have everything out by noon today. Thanks," Lexi said, handing her the money and then walking out before Mrs. Smit could say anything else. She waited in the shadows of the front entrance til she saw tony and the mystery man leave. She rushed up to her apartment and grabbed bags out of her closet and rushed to pack as much as she could. None of the furniture was hers so she wouldn't have to worry about moving it. Her security deposit should cover the price for the coffee table's broken glass. She cleaned up the glass and righted the couch.

Lexi had three bags and a suitcase. She slipped her key into the key drop on Mrs. Smit's door and left for the bus stop. She had no idea where she would go, she just knew she couldn't stay there anymore. The bus arrived and the driver helped Lexi with her bags. She sat in the back and took in the scenery. Her nerves were fried, but she knew where she had to go. She got off the bus with her bags and walked a few blocks. Setting her bags down, she stared at the old stone building. She never thought she would come back here, but here she was again. The bell tinkled as she opened the door and the receptionist looked up.

"Hi, can I help you miss?"

"Yes, um, do you have any open beds for the night? I'll just be staying for one night," Lexi said quietly.

The receptionist looked at her papers and grabbed a key off one of the many hooks behind her.

"Follow me please," the receptionist said, walking out of the office, towards the rooms. They turned a few corners and walked into one of the open rooms on the left.

"Both the top and bottom bunk are open so you get your choice. Your locker is number 33."

"Thank you," Lexi said, taking the key from her. She went to the locker and locked up some of her belongings and her purse.
