Lexi hung up the phone and began walking to Tristan's office. She pushed the glass door open gently and he swung in his chair to face her. A brilliant smile lit up his face at the sight of her. She gave him one in return and waited for him to hang up the phone.
"Yes, that sounds wonderful, Mr. Tanner. I'll have my secretary send you the details soon. Thank you. Goodbye, sir," Tristan said and hung up the phone. "Hi," he said to her, leaning back in his chair slightly.
"Hi," she said, shyly, her face blushing. How, after living with this wonderful man for three months, could he still make her feel nervous and awaken the butterflies in her stomach? "Mr. Ashbourne was on the phone about some shipments. I got him the information, but he said to tell you hello and to schedule a visit to see him soon. He also mentioned a Sutton and gave a phone number."
"Oh, that man. Ever so persistent. Sutton is his daughter he's tried to set me up with about a billion and one times now. I'll have to tell him I have my sights set somewhere else," he said, standing up and coming around his desk to stand in from of her. He wrapped her in his arms and kissed her temple. She rested her forehead on his chest and closed her eyes for a moment. "How is your day so far?" he whispered.
"Good. How's yours?" she asked.
"Better now. But I have to be heading out for a board meeting soon. I'll come back to pick you up at five and I'll make us some dinner tonight?"
"That sounds nice. I'd really like that."
"Okay. Don't miss me too much," he said, winking at her as he grabbed his coat and headed out the door. She waved and headed back to her desk.
The phone rang a few times that afternoon, but not enough to make the clock go any faster. Lexi would have sworn the thing was broken had it not been for the tick of the seconds hand that seemed so deafeningly loud in the quiet office. She answered the unopened emails she had awaiting and copied and sent off some information for various clients. The mail cart came and she chatted with Mary for a few minutes.
Finally, five o'clock rolled around and she grabbed her coat and headed towards the elevators. She joined the crowd that was leaving and patiently waited for the next one to arrive. The telltale ding sounded and the group walked forward into the small space, just barely fitting in. Their descent began and Lexi was anxious to see Tristan again. The doors opened to the lobby and the elevator almost emptied out. One more floor and Lexi could barely wait. The doors opened up to the garage and Tristan's shiny red sports car was sitting just a few feet away from the elevator, awaiting Lexi's arrival. She opened the passenger door and slid smoothly into the seat.
Tristan flashed her a bright smile and after making sure she was firmly buckled in her seat, he zipped out of the parking garage and onto the road home.
Upon parking the car in his apartment's garage, Tristan popped the trunk and began unloading grocery bags. Lexi took a few and had to admit, for a tiny sports car, it had more trunk space than she would have thought. They managed to gather everything in one trip and made their way to the elevator and up to the apartment. They set their bags down on the kitchen counter and Lexi began unloading the bags. She found yeast, lots of flour, different cheeses, and a can of pizza sauce along with a few other things. She quizzically looked at Tristan.
"I thought we could try making pizza tonight. Sound good to you?"
"Ooo, yes!"
They made quick work of mixing the ingredients. After the dough had risen enough, they added their toppings and placed their two pizzas in the oven. Tristan settled himself on the couch to wait and Lexi followed after him. He flipped through some channels and they settled on some re-runs of an old TV show.
