CHAPTER 1

It's been three years. Three years since I've seen my family. Three years since I came home to see my parents surrounded by their own blood. Three years since I was ripped out of my brothers arms, kicking and screaming by creatures with inhuman strength and speed. Three years since my brother promised he'd find me.

For the first year of my kidnapping, I thought my brother was coming to rescue me. Then, I gave up hope. It took them two years to finally break me; all I was to them was a human blood bag. I was an object. I didn't have feelings, not to them anyway. I was reminded of my place every day. My once chestnut brown hair was now a deep blood red, and my once bright grey eyes were dull. My only friend was the girl with the blue eyes. You can tell a lot about a person by their eyes. The vampires, they're cruel, heartless and they have these intimidating red eyes that seem to burn into your soul but this girl, her eyes were so soft: caring even though she was broken inside. She had the same flaming hair colour as everyone else in this horrible place, but what set her apart from the others were her sapphire eyes. She told me the rules, told me what to do and what not to do. She guided me, was my friend. Then they killed her, in front of my grey eyes. That is what made them dull. I can't remember her name, one to many concussions turned temporary memory loss into permanent amnesia. I knew then, at that moment in time, I was alone until they grew tired of me and got rid of me.

I was broken out of my thoughts by a sting in my neck, and the deep voice of Jamie Lowe,

"All done sweet heart, did you enjoy it?" I nodded submissively knowing what the consequences of not agreeing would be, "Answer me verbally or next time I rip your vocal cords out so you physically can't answer me verbally, you got that?" He snarled, his eyes a bright crimson,

"Sorry sir, I will remember to answer properly next time."

"That's a good girl. Off you go, Damien wants to see you and I wouldn't be late, Damien is much less forgiving than I am." With that I jumped off his lap and scurried off to the opposite side of camp. I gently placed my hand to my neck and pulled it away to see the familiar red stain on the skin of my ivory palms. I sighed. Why me? Why am I so special to them? Most girls die after two days why have they kept me alive for so long? I eventually got to the other side of camp. I paused in front of Damien's tent and took a deep intake of breath. Then I cleared my throat and spoke,

"May I come in sir? Master Jamie said you wanted to see me." A reply came from inside,

"Ah yes come in darling." I cringed at the low, husky voice. It meant he needed to feed.

If it wasn't for his crimson eyes and the fact he was a vampire, Damien was definitely attractive. He had shaggy black hair that covered his eyes. He was always running his hands through his hair making his eyes all the more visible. He had frosted skin, which made the black tattoos curling up his muscular arms stand out even more. I went in and the temperature seemed to drop causing a shiver to run through my body. He patted his lap as an indication that I was to go sit on it,

"You're a very beautiful girl Mackayla. I'm so happy that you're obedient or we would've had to kill you and I wouldn't have wanted that. You're my favourite out of all the girls here. Your blood seems so much...sweeter." I shivered. His muscular chest vibrated as he let out a low chuckle. He swept my waist length red hair to the left, exposing my neck to him. He opened his mouth giving me a glimpse of his pearly white fangs lowering towards my skin, until I was met with the familiar flame of pain igniting in my neck. I whimpered as his fangs punctured my neck. He moaned in satisfaction as I tried not to scream out in pain. He was interrupted by one of the newer vampires bursting into his tent. Damien shoved me off his lap, his eyes glowing in anger,

"What have I told you about interrupting me while I'm feeding?"

"I know sir, I'm sorry but the camp is under invasion. They found us." The vampire's voice was laced with panic,

"WHAT!" Damien roared causing me to flinch and quietly whimper, "Go and tell Jamie to prepare for battle, make sure that every vampire has feed properly so that they are all..." he was cut off by a loud scream outside the tent. Damien cursed. He bent down and whispered in my ear, "Don't worry darling, I'll kill them all so we can be together again, but until then we need to hide you." He then told the other vampire to take me somewhere where I will be safe. I didn't hear what he said. My mind was numb, this was my chance to get rescued and maybe I was finally going to be saved. The other one picked me up and placed me over his shoulder. He ran vampire speed to the only stone building in the whole camp. My eyes widened,

"No not there please! Please someone help me! Put me down!" I screamed to try and desperately get someone's attention but there was no one there. He kicked the door open and threw me in the dark, cold hole in the middle of the room. He turned on his heel and went to walk out the door. The door didn't slam, it didn't even close. I head a thud and could only assume he was dead.

"Hello? Is anyone in here? I'm not going to hurt you, I'm here to help!" My heart leapt in my throat, I could almost taste freedom,

"Help me please, I'm down here! Please help me!" I heard something clatter to the ground and footsteps rushing over. Golden brown eyes peered down the hole and saw my bloody figure crouched in corner, shivering. His eyes widened and he lent down, offering his hand to me. I ran over and stretched as far as I could to get it until our hands brushed and he clasped onto me, lifting me up with ease. He pulled me up until I was clear of the hole. I sat there sobbing into his shirt as he held me and whispered sweet reassurances in my ear. I eventually pulled away and opened my mouth to thank him, until I saw a large figure standing in the doorway overseeing the events taking place. I screamed recognising the tattoos swirling around the muscular arms. The man turned around but wasn't fast enough as Damien quickly placed his hands around the man's throat and broke his neck. I screamed and made a run for the door. Somehow, my petite and starved physique got through the door way and I ran, harder than I have ever ran before. I saw a woman in the same black uniform that the man had been in waving at me. I pushed myself even harder, my legs protesting and my lungs screaming at me. I was so close to him, I could taste freedom, until I heard leaves and branches crunching behind me. I went to look behind me but got interrupted by the woman in front of me,

"NO! Don't look behind you just keep running! Keep going! You're so close!" She held out her hand to me, and I stretched my arm out to reach hers. Ours fingers brushed and my grey eyes made contact with her blue ones until I felt a pair of muscular arms wrap around my waist and pull me back. I screamed as I was pulled away from my freedom. I landed on the hard ground and the wind was knocked out of me. I coughed trying to get the air back into my lungs until I was lifted off the ground by my neck,

"You're so ungrateful! I saved you from the others, they wanted to kill you! I was the one who kept you alive all these years! You wouldn't even be alive right now if it wasn't for me! This is how you repay me, by trying to get away from me? Looks like you are going to get away from me just not the way you want to!" Damien snarled and then bit into my neck and sucked harder than ever before. I screamed. He barely fed for a minute and I started to feel dizzy, dizzier than I had ever felt before. The world was spinning and I began to slide from his grip but he just held me tighter to him. Then I heard him grunt and he stopped. He let go of me and I fell to the floor. I felt a sharp pain in my head. I lay on the floor, my vision swimming. I saw the woman with blue eyes running to me and then darkness consumed me.
