CHAPTER 1

It's just another hot day in California at my not so lovely school sitting in math class learning about letters and numbers being added together or something like that. Math isn't my strength in school if you haven't already guessed. I'm best at the study of food also known as lunch.

I catch myself staring at the clock waiting for the bell to ring so I can go eat lunch next period.

I sit in my usual seat in class at the back of the room tapping my fingers to the beat of the large hand on the clock moving as slow as it possibly could go.

Is it even moving? No, no it's not.

I'm going to be stuck in this class, starving for the rest of my junior year or maybe even my entire life.

I really just want a nice large, cheesy, not too greasy, slice of pizza right now. You know the kind with the thin crispy crust that crunches as you attempt to take a bite into the steaming hot cheese which stretches to what seems like endlessly into the unknown until suddenly when the cheese can't handle it anymore, its snaps right back to its home on the pizza.

If that's not the definition of perfection I don't wanna know what is.

Why doesn't time move faster? All I want in this moment of life is food, is that too much to ask?!

RING RING

My prayers have been answered!

As I exit class as fast as my small legs can carry me I find my boyfriend, Matt, who I must say isn't too bad on the eyes. Still to this day I don't know why of all people he chose me to be his. Matt has the absolute perfect dark brown hair that rests somehow perfectly flipped on his forehead. And when you look into his deep blue eyes you are hypnotized into a deep trance. Did I mention he's like 6'3"?

Well anyways enough about him it's lunchtime.

I take my usual seat next to Matt and some of my other friends who just talk about their new hair extensions or their new purses when I would much rather discuss more important matters, reality tv shows.

"Oh my gosh you guys! Can you believe the Bachelor last night chose Nikki to give the final rose to when Clare so deserved it?!" I stated waiting for a response.

I looked around and saw blank stares everywhere. There was absolute silence.

Obviously handbags and hair are way more important than my tragic TV series problems.

I just continue eating my bland cafeteria chicken that I promise is made of cardboard boxes, but it's better than math class.

As I look around at the other lunch tables I spot the "cool" kid table laughing up a storm about who knows what. I'm not worthy enough to sit there. But if you look in the completely opposite side of the cafeteria you'll find the strange kid table with kids that looked like they haven't touched soap in decades. They seem to be making their food into animals of some sort ... As I looked at the front of the cafeteria I spotted a tall muscular and I must say quite attractive male wearing a fancy suit and tie talking to the lunch ladies. Close to the man was of course the cheerleader table that were discussing the outrage of their new cheer uniform colors. Why can't there be people who want to sit and give me their food and chat about The Bachelor?

I listened back into my "friend" Danielle telling the table about her new shade of nail polish.

"Do you see how intricately I drew this butterfly on this nail and a flower on this one?"

"Oh Danielle that's so GORGEOUS!" Said Carol, "Don't you think so Mary?!"

I did not want to respond to that. Her nails were not "GORGEOUS" they were amateur. I've seen better but just as I was about to respond, the lights flickered.

It become pitch black in an instant.

All I heard were gut wrenching screams from girls. I could feel my stomach in knots and my hands began to sweat. I couldn't see a single thing. I tried to find my food to continue eating my cardboard when I felt Matt's reassuring grip on my arm lifting me from my seat and leading me away from our table.

Matt was taking me to go find light since he knew I have a terrible fear of the dark.

As me and Matt head down the hall he begins to slowly progress into a sprint forcing me to sprint along.

It seems as if were headed towards the doors that lead outside. I don't know, I can't see a thing still.

I begin to get short of breath from all this running.

I hear Matt open the door that leads apparently to the outdoors because I see light! Thanks to the sun of course.

I turn to Matt to thank him for leading me out of there but the tall attractive man I'm facing isn't my boyfriend.
