You gasped, covering your mouth with a hand as the hurt hit your chest. You hadn't thought about Kevin ever walking away from you. Kevin had been a permanent fixture in your life for so long and now... Tears streamed down your cheeks, pain invading every fiber of your being. It had only taken three days for everything to fall apart, for your most intimate relationship to come apart at the seams.
You bent at the waist, letting the bitter tears out and muffling your sobs with your hand. You didn't want anyone barging in, attempt to offer you comfort for this. It had been your decision after all. You knew how Kevin was, how much he feared new things. And you had still fallen for that smile, those expressive eyes. Had let the bliss of a dance and the close proximity of handsome Kevin reel you in, and you were gone. Hook, line, and sinker.
Blake was waiting for you in the hallway a few minutes later, his suitcase next to him. He shot you a sweet smile and made his way over to you, wrapping an arm around your shoulder and pressing a kiss to your temple.
"You okay?" he whispered against your hair.
"I'm fine," you answered, blinking back the tears. He was being too sweet with you and it was only making it worse. You had never thought that you could hurt so much, but decided to bite back your feelings and leave for home. Maybe there, Kevin wouldn't be able to haunt you.
Blake pulled away from you and took the suitcase from your hand. "Come on. Let's go. Karen and Stan are waiting for us downstairs to say goodbye."
"Thanks, Blake."
"Don't mention it, Y/N," said Blake with a wink. He waited for you to start descending the stairs before following after you.
Just as Blake has said, Stan and Karen were at the foot of the stairs, waiting with the door opened. Karen embraced you tightly, kissing your cheek and making you promise that you'd be back soon. Stan hugged you briefly before helping Blake with one of the suitcases.
Wrapping an arm around your shoulders, Karen walked with you to the car and made sure you were wearing your seatbelt before she stepped back, offering you a gentle smile. You wanted to cry at how sweet she was, blowing her a kiss before straightening him and smiling at Blake as he turned the ignition and pulled out of the driveway.
The drive back home was relatively quiet, Blake offering to play whatever music you want. You cheered yourself up with one of the happier playlists on Spotify, occasionally snapping pictures of Blake to put on Snapchat. You knew Kevin would look at them and it took all of your self-control to not check up on him and the story he had put up on the app.
Four hours later, Blake was parking the car in the building's parking lot and you climbed out, suddenly eager to get back into your apartment. Blake offered to walk you to your door, but you shook your head, announcing that you'd be fine. He reluctantly left you and stepped into the place he shared with Kevin.
You walked into your home, smiling softly at the peace it brought you to be back alone. So much had changed in just a weekend and you were grateful to be back home. Kevin popped back up in your thoughts, but you quickly shook your head, distracting yourself with tasks, like unpacking your suitcase and cleaning up the place.
Doing chores only kept you distracted for a few hours, until you were brushing your teeth and spilled toothpaste all over your t-shirt. Rolling your eyes, you washed up and took the shirt off, your glance settling on the hawk perched on your hipbone. Your fingers traced the inked skin, remembering how Kevin had fawned over it the morning after you had gotten it.
Kevin had always been there for you, as you had always stuck with him. You were inseparable, even in the hardest of times. He had been the one who had helped you get over your ex, knowing just what to do to keep your mind off of the jerk. Tears stung at the back of your eyes as you collapsed in a heap, your knees hitting the bathroom tiles, realization dawning on you that now you had to heal yourself without Kevin there. He had been the one who hurt you and you really didn't know what to do.
