Blake looked up at Kevin and you with a guilt-ridden expression. "We were running up the stairs and playing around—And Brynn tripped."
"I think I sprained my ankle," said Brynn, face wrinkling in pain.
"I'm so sorry, Brynn," Blake murmured.
She looked up at him with a sweet smile on her face. "It's okay, dear. You didn't mean to."
Blake eased up a little at her words and declared he was going to cradle her in his arms in order to take her into their room. Kevin and you followed as Blake laid Brynn on the bed.
By now, Karen and Stan had heard the commotion and were stepping into the room with concerned looks on their faces. Karen was quick to react and before everyone could think of helping her, she was already tending to Brynn's ankle.
"You'll have to rest for a few hours, dear," she said tenderly as Brynn thanked her for her help. "But you'll be up in no time and you have Blake to hold you up." She gave Brynn a knowing smile and Brynn laughed softly, nodding her head. Blake flushed pink and looked down at his feet, a grin on his lips.
Meanwhile, you and Kevin exchanged glances. You laughed at Kevin's disgusted face.
Stan suddenly cleared his throat and clapped his hand down on Kevin's shoulder. "Son, there's going to be a barbecue tonight and I'm going to need your help. Do you mind?"
"Of course not, dad," Kevin answered. "I'll see you later, babe," he said, turning to you and pressing a quick kiss to your cheek. You were momentarily floored by this gesture before remembering that you were supposed to be his girlfriend and held back from kicking his shin as he walked away. You were pretty sure Kevin was sporting a smirk once he turned around.
Resisting the urge to roll your eyes, you were making to excuse yourself from the room when Karen called your name.
"Y/N, dear, you still have to go dress shopping. Since Kevin can't go, Blake can accompany you," she suggested.
Your eyes widened at her words.
"Karen, I think I can stay with Brynn and you can—"
"Blake Austin," she said in her mom voice, and you almost laughed at how Blake's eyes opened wide. "None of that. I will be taking care of Brynn here because I also have to get everything else ready for tonight. You and Y/N can go together, okay?"
"Yes, ma'am," Blake complied.
You only nodded, knowing better than to contradict Kevin's mom. After saying your goodbye's, you stepped out of the room with Blake.
"I'm sorry," you said, looking up at Blake with a slight wince. "I know you wanted to stay with Brynn and now you're being forced to come with me."
Blake smiled down at you sweetly, waving your words away. "Don't worry about it, Y/N. We barely get to spend time together. This will be fun."
"I'll try not to take too much time," you said.
Blake chuckled and held the front door opened for you once you got downstairs. He did the same for when you arrived to the car and you thank him quietly, climbing into the passenger's seat. Your wrung your fingers on your lap once you had put your seatbelt on and silently hoped that you wouldn't give your feelings away while spending these few hours with your crush.
Blake took you to the closest shopping mall, fifteen minutes away. Parking fairly close to the main entrance, Blake and you kept the same step as you walked. You appreciated him for doing this, being that your legs were significantly shorter than his.
