Time came to a screeching halt, everything seemed to freeze and you could hear the blood roaring in your ears. Kevin's face was so close to yours, his grey-blue eyes were boring into yours and you felt your throat dry up. How had you never noticed just how breathtaking his eyes really were?

You could feel Kevin's breath on your lips, smell the beer he had been drinking. Biting on your bottom lip, you realized that his nose could be able to pick up on the whiff of alcohol in your own breath and you wrung your hands in embarrassment. Your heart was beating erratically and you were pretty sure that everyone around you could hear it beating.

"Bride and groom are here!"

It shattered like glass, never to be picked back up again. The moment flew away and before you could react, Kevin was pulling away and getting on his feet. He was applauding along with the rest of his family and after clearing your throat, you followed suit. Ignoring the disappointment coursing through your mind, you clapped your hands along with Kevin and everyone else.

The girl you assumed to be the bride, a beautiful woman with fair skin, walked into the kitchen. She was flanked by Karen and Kevin's aunt, Ida. They were the ones who had taken upon the responsibility of introducing her to everyone.

"Here are JJ's cousins," Karen said cheerily as she gestured at all the younger people gathered around the table. There were smiles and congratulatory words as she shook hands with family members.

But her eyes suddenly widened as she recognized Kevin, who in turn offered her a tiny, tight smile. She gasped out a disbelieving smile, as if she was somehow expecting him to be there but knowing better than to get her hopes up. With her arms extended, she walked up to Kevin and embraced him.

Even though Kevin reciprocated the hug, he was quick to pull away from her and turned to you.

"This is my girlfriend, Y/N," said Kevin, wrapping an arm around your waist and pulling you forward to meet her. "Babe, this is Kate."

"Hi," she said, shaking your hand. "Nice to meet you, Y/N."

"The pleasure is all mine," you smiled back at her.

The tension between Kevin and Kate was clear for everyone to know that they somehow knew each other. All eyes were on them and you were pretty sure they were dying to know just how Kevin and Kate had met. Yet Kevin remained quiet. Despite this, Kate was quick to answer the silent question, explaining that they had been high school classmates.

"Good evening, family," a dark-haired man stepped into the room and you drew in a sharp breath. He was almost regal-looking. Tall and slender, the man radiated confidence and you knew that he was pretty sure he was handsome. He carried himself with cockiness as he walked around the room greeting every family member with hugs and kisses.

"That's JJ," Kevin sat down with you and whispered into your ear. You jumped back at the close proximity and Kevin chuckled. "What's wrong?"

You shook your head. "N-Nothing."

Kevin seemed unsatisfied with that answer, but JJ was suddenly right next to your table and you smiled up at him in greeting. JJ smiled back before resting his hand on Kevin's shoulder, squeezing it affectionately.

"Kevin Love, it's been a while, cousin," he greeted.

Kevin smiled up at him before getting on his feet. They embraced as Kevin congratulated JJ on the wedding. JJ thanked him as his eyes landed on you once again.

"Y/N, this is my cousin, JJ," Kevin said. "JJ, this is my girlfriend, Y/N."

JJ took your hand and kissed the knuckles, his eyes twinkling. He was quite charming at what he did and you were pretty sure you were blushing. "Kevin always managed to get himself the prettiest ladies," he drawled out. You could see Kevin rolling his eyes in your peripheral vision, but you didn't care too much. JJ was breathtaking. "Did he tell you he dated Kate back in high school?"
