Kate smiled at Kevin, finding that she enjoyed the familiarity that he offered. "Where do you want to go eat?" she asked.

"Um, I actually ate breakfast just now," Kevin answered. "So, I'm not hungry."

"We can always go to the lake," said Kate, voice soft, almost shy. Her mind ran to all of those times they had snuck out to be together in that lake. It held so many memories for them.

Kevin laughed, shaking his head. "You still remember that place?"

"You bet I do, my first kiss was there," she smiled, squeezing his elbow. She pulled him along with her. "Come on, let's go. Just to reminisce."

"Okay," he grinned.

Kevin followed her lead to their hideout spot, only to remember having been attacked by the goose last night.

"Wait," he pulled back as Kate shot him an inquiring look. "There's this goose that lives there now and it hates me. We have to watch out for it."

"I'm sure it won't be there," she giggled, taking his hand in hers and dragging him.

Within minutes they had arrived to the place where they had spent so many together. It was here where Kevin had first confessed his feeling for Kate, stammering and nervous while fidgeting on his feet. She had responded by lunging at him and pressing her lips to his. It had been one of Kevin's happiest moments.

Their relationship had bloomed from there, stretching out for more than four years and Kevin found himself in love for the first time in his life. Kate was everything he had wanted, but the nagging feeling that he was settling down too early in life would not desist. He had dumped Kate in hopes that he would find himself in the city, settle down and eventually meet the girl of his dreams.

Twelve years later and he stood here with the same girl he had loved as a teenager. She was getting married and he was faking a relationship with his best friend. Kevin shook his head at this thought, hands shoved into his front pockets. He kicked at a stray rock, sighing deeply and interrupting the silence that had settled between them.

Kate took a deep breath. "I miss you." She slid her hand down Kevin's forearm and pulled his hand out from his pocket, carding her fingers through his. Kate felt almost relieved at finally being able to touch Kevin once again. He had been her first love after all.

Kevin cleared his throat and squeezed his grip.

Kate had always been a comforting thought for him, his safe zone. She had known him inside and out, knew when he didn't like something just by looking at his eyes, or when he did enjoy something, hos his smile just seemed to stretch a little wider.

They both turned to face each other, eyes half-hooded. Not really thinking twice about it, their heads leaned in simultaneously and mouths met in a tender kiss. Kevin cupped her face, reveling in the sensation of having her kiss back with the same fervor he remembered from so long ago. Kate grasped on to his arms, an anchor to the insanity she was currently experiencing.

"W-We can't..." it hurt to pull away, but JJ was Kevin's cousin and Kate's fiancée. Kevin couldn't do that to his cousin, no matter how much they didn't get along. "Y-You're engaged and he's my cousin, Kate."

"Kev, please," she whispered, biting her lower lip. She leaned forward, but Kevin shook his head and took a step backwards.

"It's too late for this, princess," he chuckled dryly.

The nickname sent a surge of sadness through Kate's chest. He had last called her that many years ago, the last time they had seen each other, when he had told her to move on and forget about him.
