~Elizabeth's POV~
When we got to the stables and had untacked our horses and put them in their stalls it started to get dark so we walked quickly towards the house. I sniffed the air when we got near the house.
"Is that a pie I smell?" I asked myself. And then as if she read my mind, Megan asked,
"Do you two smell pie too?" Edward and I nodded and we all began to run to the house. When we reached the house and went inside sure enough there was some delicious apple pie. Two of them to be exact.
"Welcome back. You all hungry? there is some pizza I'm heating up and some pie well apparently you know there's pie because you are all staring at it." Adah said smiling. I quickly looked away from the pie and blushed slighty.
"Oh ok thanks." I said.
"Take a seat everyone. Oh yay! I found some ice cream in the freezer. Perfect!" Adah said. We all sat down at the table and shortly after we were all eating. And Edward was telling the story of the race,
"And then there was this big like really big fallen tree and Elizabeth just jumped over it like nothing."
"Give some credit to La Roca he was amazing he is super fast and amazing at jumping." I said.
"Was it love at ride?" Millie asked teasingly.
"Actually yes love at first ride, love at first race, and love at first jump." And we burst out laughing.
"But seriously that was a big jump." Edward said at last.
"How big?" John asked.
"Well I'm not good at measuring in my head but... Oh! I have an idea!" Edward said.
"What?" Henry asked.
"Let's all go out there after we finish eating and you can see it for yourselves." Edward suggested.
"Umm.. I don't know it's dark out already." Camille put in.
"But we could take flashlights." Megan said.
"Ok I'm in." Camille said shrugging.
"Me too." Millie put in. and then a little chorus of 'me too's went up and then we all started eating again so we could hurry and finish. When we finished eating Henry and John went with Edward to go get some flashlights.
"So how high do you think the jump was?" Camille asked.
"I don't know but I do know it's higher than anything I have jumped before." I replied.
"And how high is your record?" Millie asked.
"115 centimeters high." I responded.
"Wow. That's high." Adah commented.
"Yeah." Megan agreed right when the boys came back.
"Ok we all set?" Edward asked.
"Hold on. Do you have a tape measure?" Henry asked.
"Oh yeah! I'll be right back." Edward said and he ran off somewhere.
"It's getting late we should probably leave right after this expedition thing." Megan said.
"Yeah. We should take our backpacks so we don't have to come back in the house." Camille suggested grabbing her backpack. And everyone else grabbed their backpacks too. Just then Edward came back into the room.
"Ok let's go. Wait what's with the backpacks?" He inquired.
"We just wanna be able to leave right after we measure this thing because it is getting kind of late." John explained.
"Good point. Well let's get going." Edward said as he started walking out the back door towards the woods and we all followed him. Edward, John and Henry had managed to find exactly 8 flashlights. One for each of us. Soon we were in the woods.
"It's so much different at night than during the day. It's like a whole other world." I said to myself. We all just walked on quietly, listening to the sounds of the woods. It was so silent and serene, yet full of life and sound.
"There it is." Edward said, breaking the silence. We all walked a little quicker until we reached the log I had jumped. John pulled out a tape measure.
"It's-" He started to say but I cut him off.
"What's that?"
"What's what?" Henry asked.
"Don't you guys ever just look around and appreciate your surroundings because if you did you would see waht Elizabeth's talking about." Adah said to her brother, slighty annoyed with him. Eventually Adah pointed when Henry just stared at her.
"That. That glow. That's what we're talking about." All the boys turned around and looked and sure enough behind that huge oak there came a glow.
"What in the world is that?" John asked.
"I don't know." Megan replied. I just stared at it.
"I have to figure out what it is." I said to myself as I started walking towards it my curiousity and exploring nature getting the best of me.
"Umm.. Elizabeth. Whatcha doing?" Millie asked. I didn't answer.
"Elizabeth?" Megan sounded slightly concerned. I turned around.
"I'm going to figure out what it is ok?" I snapped then turned back around and continued on. I heard some whispering going on then Camille asked me,
"Do you mind if we come with?" I turned around and smiled a little.
"Thought you'd never ask." We all continued again in silence. The closer we drew to the glow the brighter and bigger it became. When we reached the oak tree our flashlights went out.
"What in the world?" I asked myself.
"Didn't you make sure they had batteries?" Megan almost shouted, because there was this humming noise that somehow we hadn't noticed but now it was really loud.
"I did." Edward replied. I banged my flashlight on my hand. Nothing. Megan opened her mouth to say something but I motioned to be quiet.
"Come on." I mouthed. and we all rounded the big tree carfully even though the glow gave a lot of light. When we were at the back of the oak we saw this round portal thingy in the back of the oak. There were very strong winds but they didn't seem natural and before any of us knew what was happening we were sucked up into the portal thingy.
