Chapter Two

"Come on slow pokes! The week awaits us!" Aby yelled at Austin and I as we walked towards Austin's car.

Aby literally took off running after the school ends, leaving Austin and I behind to catch up with her. Aby wasn't that far ahead of us so we quickly ran after her but in the end, Austin took over Aby and reached his car first. By the time I reached the car, I was panting as if I've just done a half an hour run. Let's just say that I'm seriously unfit. If I'm being completely honest, if there's ever a zombie attack, I'll be the first to die because I can't run away from the zombie. I would give up running within the first few minutes and surrender myself to the zombies.

"Get in the car fat ass. I want to play laser tag like right now!" Aby pushed me into the front seat of the car, forcing me to sit next to Austin. After she successfully got me into the car, she quickly went and sat in the backseat.

"LASER TAG HERE WE COME!" Aby shouted as soon as Austin started driving, almost breaking my eardrums with her voice.

"Here you go miss, the laser tag gear," the guy behind the counter passed me the gear.

I quietly said 'thanks' and took the gear to one corner to put them on. I don't play laser tag that much so I didn't know what I was doing while putting on the gear. I tried my best to learn how to put on the gear by observing the other putting on their gear. I thought I finally got how to put on the gear and confidently try putting it on myself.

"Madi, you know that you're wearing it upside, down right?" Austin asked while walking towards me.

"Nope. I seriously thought that I got it right. I guess I was wrong," I quietly say to myself.

Austin seemed to heard it because he chuckled while helping me with my wrongly worn gear. We both just stayed silent while Austin helped me put on the gear correctly. It didn't felt a uncomfortable as I thought. I kind of felt at ease, like there's someone out there who's taking care of me.

"There you go. This," he paused his speech for a while to gesture at my, now, correctly worn gear, before continuing, "is how you put on the laser tag gear."

"Admit it A. We won and you lost!" I annoyed Austin as we exit the laser tag building.

Usually I'm not the one to tease or annoy anyone but the team that I was on won all three games within a really short amount of time. I was on the same team with Aby and all the girls that we invited. Austin was on the other hand, was teamed up with all the guys that we invited. We invited a bunch of friends that we knew from outside of school. Most of them we knew due to sports and part time jobs that we used to do. Since the girls won, the guys (including Austin) have been sulking and mumbling things along the lines of 'we let the girls win'.

"Come on, it's not so bad. You've lost many arguments with either me or Mads. It's not that bad to admit defeat," Aby added on to the teasing.

"I WILL NEVER!" Austin shouted while running off towards his car.

Both Aby and I couldn't be bothered to run after him. Since we were walking quietly I thought that I could spend the time clearing my head but Aby had other plans. She suddenly stopped in front of me and turned to face me with a face full of seriousness.

"You have to tell him already Mads, you can't wait till we send you off to tell him," Aby tried to talk me into confessing to Austin.

I sighed deeply to what she said. I know she's right. I'll probably hate myself if I do that.

"I know. I know, I should tell him soon. I just don't want the friendship that we have now to go down the drain just like that. Aby, we've been best friends since we were little kids. I just need the perfect moment to tell him. I have no idea when and where that would be. I also have no idea what to say to him," I told Aby everything that was on my mind.

"You worry too much Mads. You'll know when is the right time. When the time comes, you'll know what to say. No matter what you say, the friendship won't go down the drain. He's Austin; he'll understand. Stop worrying so much."

Almost as soon as Aby finished saying that, a familiar honk made me jump in shock. I didn't have to look up to know that the guy that we were talking about was next to us in his car. I guess we took a long time talking that Austin had to drive instead of waiting for us.

"What are you weirdos talking about? I waited for you two for like 15 minutes," he asked up after rolling down the window.

Aby just ignored Austin and move to enter the car. I just quickly mumbled 'nothing' under my breath and entered the car.

Oh, boy, this is going to be a long car ride home.
