Chapter 6

3 weeks later

Mark was woken up by Coco darting out from underneath the blankets, hearing Youngjae unlocking the front door. He slowly got out of bed and met his roommate in the living room, who was already sitting on the couch, two cups of coffee sitting on the small table in front of him. A tired Youngjae slowly looked up and smiled, happy to be home.

"Good morning, I stopped on the way home to pick up some coffee." Mark sat down beside him and picked up the coffee labelled 'M'.

Two sugars and one cream, Youngjae never forgot.

"How was work?" Mark spoke after taking a sip. Youngjae rolled his eyes, smile never leaving his face.

"Same old, same old. Computers don't fix themselves." Youngjae had a vast knowledge about computers, but no degree to fix them, so he works the night shift at a 24 hour hotline for when people's computers went on the fritz. No one ever wants to work the 11 pm to 6 am shift except Youngjae, who never complains about anything. His weird work schedule came with a weird sleeping schedule, to bed at 10 am, awake at 9 pm. Mark slowly got used to it, making breakfast at night and warming up leftovers for him in the morning if Youngjae was hungry when he got home. Youngjae insisted that he didn't have to do that, but Mark was used to taking care of another person and it helped him keep his mind off things. Mark also enjoyed Youngjae's company.

The first week Mark was constantly having a meltdown, never leaving his room. He wouldn't talk to Youngjae or even look at him when he did come out, either to grab food or use the bathroom. Mark thought that Youngjae couldn't hear him in his room, constantly crying or screaming into a pillow, until he noticed the notes that were slid under the door. They had words of encouragement or cute little sayings on them, sometimes a little drawing. Slowly they eased Mark's emotions and one morning he finally came out of his room, sitting beside Youngjae on the couch. Not wanting to startle Mark, Youngjae didn't say a word, just continued watching T.V and they sat there together until Youngjae went to bed. Youngjae was patient and slowly Mark started to talk, about random things at first, then started asking Youngjae questions about himself. Nothing to hide, he always answered honestly and when Mark said something about himself, Youngjae would always listen, never pressing on things that were hard to talk about.

As the weeks went by, Mark opened up more and the closer they got. They would always go for walks with Coco in the morning after Youngjae got home, that's how Mark started to learn his way around the new area. Not wanting to deal with Jackson, Mark got a new phone and the first number he put in was Youngjae's. If Mark couldn't sleep at night he would end up texting Youngjae and would always get a near immediate reply.

Youngjae always had the weekends off so they would go grocery shopping and hang out all day. It was a Sunday morning when Mark decided to tell Youngjae about Jackson. Mark sat at the counter while Youngjae cooked breakfast, feeling bad for Mark always cooking for him.

"Hey Youngjae, can I tell you something?" Hearing the nervousness in his voice, Youngjae looked up from what he was doing.

"You can tell me anything, Hyung." Youngjae was the first one to ever call Mark that and he enjoyed it. Staring at his hands, he told Youngjae everything, not missing a single detail. Youngjae was quiet the whole time, focusing on Mark and not burning their meal. By the time Mark finished, breakfast was made and getting cold. Not wanting to look up to show he was crying, Mark thought Youngjae had left the room. He was sure he was alone until he felt a pair of arms wrap around him. Jaebum only gave Youngjae small details about Jackson, but he had no idea how bad the situation really was. Mark, still sitting on the chair, cried into Youngjae's shoulder as he stroked his hair. The whole time Mark had fought the pain by himself, it felt good to have someone to lean on.
