December 1st
Oklahoma City AirportLucky parked her car way too far away from the check-in area. It was fairly cold that morning, the temperature being in the mid 40s (Fahrenheit), and she had to wait for a shuttle to come into the parking lot to take her to the correct terminal. It took the shuttle quite a while to reach her area, and when she got on, she saw that only one other person was on the bus. Lucky mentally groaned and sat down in a random chair.
"What's a pretty girl like you doing here at this time in the morning?"
It was the other passenger who asked Lucky that. It was an older black woman, whose hair was only a little grey and her brown eyes shining. The lady had a smile on her face as she looked to Lucky.
"Oh," Lucky answered, "I, uh, I'm going to LA to visit my boyfriend. We haven't seen each other in a while."
The lady smiled, "That's sweet."
Lucky smiled and asked, "What about you? Why are you here?"
"I'm heading back to Boston after a work convention. You know the event this past week at the community center?"
Lucky nodded, knowing there was a fashion convention going on the previous week. She partially wanted to go and see the cool outfits for sale, but she knew that everything would be overpriced and low-quality.
"Well," the lady continued, "I had a section there. I am a representative from Variety Outfitters up north."
Lucky's mouth gaped a little, "Variety Outfitters? My friend Melissa loves that brand! They don't sell it much down here, so when she's sees something she always buys it."
"I'm trying to get it where they sell more here in the south. It would really help with business. Did you know we don't sell any items in Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, or Arizona?"
"That's insane!" Lucky sputtered, feeling the lady's emotions herself, "You guys would do so well down here! Another friend of mine, who also lives in Boston, has a whole bunch of clothes from your main store. Last time she was down here, she wore a really pretty pink dress from Variety."
The lady smiled at Lucky. She stuck her hand out and greeted, "Daniella Diggs."
Lucky shook Daniella's hand and said, "Lucille Montgomery."
The two ladies smiled at each other as the shuttle slowed down and stopped in front of a terminal. More specifically, the one Lucky had to go to.
"This is my stop," Lucky said as she stood up, grabbing her two large suitcases at the same time, "It was nice speaking to you, Mrs. Diggs."
"Call me Daniella," the other replied, and Lucky nodded with a polite smile. Daniella then reached into her pocket and handed a business card to Lucky.
"In case you want to apply as a photographer for us."
Lucky stuttered a little, not sure what to say. Daniella only chuckled and said, "I can see that expensive camera sticking out of your purse. I know a professional photographer when I see one."
Lucky only blushed and said goodbye to Daniella before getting off of the shuttle and walking into the airport. It was mostly vacant, considering it was only 5:45 in the morning. Lucky was able to check her bags in and get through security with no problems. By the time she was through security, she still had a little over an hour before her flight boarded. She decided to go to a Starbucks stand and get some breakfast.
