New Life

ASHLEY'S (POV)

I can't say it enough how much I am dreading going to school tomorrow. I hate being the new kid, it's always so awkward showing up having no idea where my classes are, having no friends to talk to, only good thing about this move was it happened right at the end of summer so I won't be coming in to the middle of a school year. But a small town like this I'm pretty positive everyone already knows each other. I was screeching through my closest trying to pick out an outfit to wear when my mom came in.

"Thanks for knocking" I sarcastically said over my shoulder as she sat on my bed.

"Whats up mom?" she looked like she had a lot on her mind.

she started to talk then stopped a few times, which was starting to annoy me. I gave her a solid three minutes before I made her spit it out.

"Dude just say whatever's on your mind already" I dropped the shirt I was looking at and came to sit by her on the bed. "whats wrong?" I took her hand and squeezed it.

"Honey this is hard to tell you, but I cheated on you father. That is why he got the house and we moved out here, and to be honest Im not sure how often he'll be around to visit." I stared at mom not knowing what to say.

"Really mom?" I couldn't believe her. She really was the reason this family is in pieces. She got off my bed and stood in front of me.

"Also his name is Mark and he and his daughter will be over for dinner tomorrow."

"Your joking."

"No Ashley there was a reason I picked this small town in the middle of no where, I came here to be closer to Mark. He's a really nice guy you'll like him, and best part he has a daughter the same age as you, who also happens to play soccer, babe you'll have a new friend in no time!" Gee thanks.

"Was Mark single or did you destroy two families?" I didn't mean to sound so harsh but I was hurt.

she took a deep breath. "Ash your father and I should have separated years ago, we haven't been in love in years we were only staying together for you. But then five months ago I ran into mark at one of you soccer games actually and we really hit it off, he made me feel wanted again, not that I need to explain anything to my daughter." At the end of her rant I could tell she was getting annoyed with my reactions, but I mean come on she just put so much on my plate, and I'm supposed to just be okay with everything. I wasn't.

"Fine mom, ill meet your new boyfriend." I walked back to my closest hoping she would get the hint and leave. Which thankfully she did, without another word.

An hour later I was finally in bed trying to get some sleep before school, but I had so much on my mind about everything my mom told me sleep wasn't going to happen tonight. I got out of bed put on some sweat pants and a jacket grabbed my headphone and longboard and made my way outside. taking a peak at the clock on my way out 2:15am great.

I had no idea where I was going to go but a good ride on my board always helped my bad moods. I shoved my headphones in my ears hit shuffle on my phones and started down the street as "Move along" by All American Rejects blasted through my ears. I don't know how long i was cruising around jamming to my music until I came to a stop at a park. I took my headphones out and sat on the nearest bench. I still couldn't believe my mom was the one that cheated on my dad, and already had a new man. Things really were going to be different this year. I was scrolling through old pictures on my phone and nearly jumped out of my skin when someone sat down next to me.

"Mind if I sit here?" I turned my head slightly and dropped my phone when I saw who it was.

"Shit" I was quick to grab my phone was so thankful it had no cracks in the screen, which is also how I saw the time was 5:45am holy shit how did I not realize I was out here for so long.

"Im Emily by the way" Her voice brought me back to the present.

"Hey I'm Ashley...can I ask what brings you to this park this early?" little strange.

she laughed a little which caused my heart to skip a beat, what the hell? why is she making me feel so shy and weird? "I was going for a run before school when I noticed you sitting out here, so I thought I was stop by and introduced myself before we run into each other at school, I'm guessing you'll be going to Gateway right? its the only high school in this area." whoa she's a really sweet person.

"Oh yeah Ill be going there I start today."

she laughed again as she got up to leave. "everyone starts today it's the first day of school." and with that she jogged away.
