I make my way back to the apartment with a spring in my step. I just gave someone my number! I unlock the door and, stepping inside, call to Hazel.
"Hazel, Hazel I have to tell you something!" I shout, locking the door behind me.
"What is it" she mumbles from the couch. She opens one eye and takes note of my unusually perky ears, the massive grin on my face.
"Jesus Dyl, anyone would think you just got laid or something" she says, then bolts upright. "You didn't get laid, did you?!"
"No, of course not!" I exclaim, then lean in and whisper conspiratorially, "I just gave someone my number"
Her eyes widen.
"Dylan! I'm happy for you. Do you like this person? Wait, don't answer that. You wouldn't have given them your number if you didn't like them" she says in a rush. "Soooooo...?" She asks.
I look at her confused and she rolls her eyes. "Details, woman. Details!" She exclaims. I briefly give her a rundown on what happened at star buck.
"Woa woa woa, wait a second. You're saying that... you went to star buck without me?!" She asks.
"And of course, the one time I'm not there you meet the love of your life" she smirks. I give a small chuckle, then my phone goes off. She raises her eyebrows and nods at it. Only four people in the world know my number, Roland, Carla, Hazel, and now Nick. I open my phone and read the text. Hazel reads over my shoulder. It's from an unknown number. It read:Hey, Dylan! It's Nick. I was wondering if you wanted to meet up tomorrow. Same time same place? Coffee's on me. See you there!
After a few seconds, another text comes in.
Xoxo
My eyes widen and I look at Hazel helplessly.
"Hazel, I need help! I barely got through our first encounter without hyperventilating, what am I supposed to do tomorrow!?" I wail.
"Shush, if you want I can come with you, how does that sound?" She replies.
I begin to relax a little, knowing my best friend has got my back.
