Marco sighed out of boredom as he was watching YouTube on the couch. Mostly trying to ignore Star and his mom in the kitchen doing who-knows-what.  "Marcooooooo!" Marco heard his mom sing-song, though it was muffled from listening to music. "Yeah, mom?" He called back, sounding a little grumpy. Why do moms have to interrupt my music? He took one earbud from his ear and heard faint giggling in the kitchen as his mom said, "Come here please, Marco." Marco sighed and rolled his eyes as he pushed himself up and strode into the Spanish-decorated interior of the kitchen that matched the rest of the house.
Marco walked through the arched doorway and saw his mom leaning against the counter near the sink while the 'foreign-exchange student' was sitting in the wicker-and-wood chairs at the dinner table, sitting straight with her hands folded in her lap just so. 'Just like a real pain-in-the-neck princess.' Marco thought as he walked over to his mom, rolling his eyes at his thought.
Star was cool sort of but she didn't speak unless she was spoken to and she was always so super proper and that got on Marco's nerves. A lot.
"You screamed, mother?" Marco asked with and arched eyebrow, a cocky smirk and a joking gleam in his gold-brown eyes.
His mother smiled widely, her green eyes alight, completely ignoring his sarcasm, "Yes I did, Marco. Star was hungry and she asked me to help her find something to eat, since our food is apparently really different from what we eat here on Earth. And I was just trying to find something and telling her about you made such amazing nachos!" His mother finished excitedly, knowing he could figure out what she was asking of him.
Marco crossed his arms and gave her a 'Are you serious? Right now?' look. His mom's smile lowered slightly and Marco glanced back at Star. She still sat perfectly poised, like she was posing for a painting, giving Marco a pleading and hopeful expression. His annoyance slipped away and was replaced with guilt, remembering how he acted like he hated her just a couple of days ago. He sighed in defeat and kept in a laugh when he caught sight of his mom give a thumbs-up to Star and Star gazed back, looking extremely confused as to what that meant.
"Fine, mom. I'll make some nachos. But, in exchange, could you take me and my friends to a movie this week?" Marco asked with a grin.
His mom looked at Marco said with a sigh in her voice, "Yes, but only if you'll mow the lawn this week and load the dishwasher after you and Star have finished making them." She gave him a smile and Marco gave her a grateful grin. He acted like a bad boy at school but he couldn't act that way around his sweet and caring mother. Star gave Marco a slight smile, seeing him actually smile and acting nice for once. She couldn't blame him. Who would be able to act bad in front of an angel like Mrs. Diaz?
"Alright now, you two get started and you know what? We'll all watch a movie tonight together. Sound good? Sounds good! Okay, I'll go pick up a movie really quick while you two make the snacks! Buh-bye!" Marco's mom said quickly as she picked up her purse and grabbed her car keys and was out the door faster than you could say 'Marco's Super Awesome Nachos.'
Marco had a shocked face as he tried to comprehend what his mom just said. Once he figured it out, Star was already next to him and gazing at him, waiting for him to start and tell her what she needed to do. Marco shook his head and stated "Okay um, Star you just, uh, sit down and I'll take care of it." Now that Marco had his thoughts in order, he didn't want Star to try to help especially if it meant she would use her wand. Marco would never admit it but when Star accidentally portal vacuumed his room, it freaked him out a little.
Marco went to the fridge and pulled out some store-bought nacho cheese and set it on the counter while he got a plate and a bag of nacho chips. Star watched all this happen with curious eyes that Marco failed to notice. Marco took the lid off the nacho cheese and put it in the microwave for a minute as he poured a bunch of chips into the plate and he waited for the cheese to finish melting properly. Star stood slowly so she wouldn't distract him and she quietly pushed in her chair as she moved to lean on the counter.
The microwave made an odd whirring sound as it melted the cheese. The only reason she knew what it was and what it did was because Mr. and Mrs. Diaz walked her around their house and Star was allowed to ask them what anything was that she was curious about.
After a minute the microwave beeped and Marco slid on some oven mitts and lifted the cheese out to check if it cooked correctly. The cheese was liquid-y and warm but not too hot. Marco nodded in satisfaction and walked over to the plate with chips on it. He then promptly dumped the cheese on chips. Star started back a little, surprised by his sudden action. Marco cleaned up what little cheese spilled off the plate and added a few more chips on top of the plate. He stared at the chips critically as if he were on some sort of cooking show with Star as the judge.
Marco smirked proudly at his creation and pushed the plate to Star, who had gone back to her place leaning on the counter to watch Marco cook. "Try one." Marco said.
Star tilted her head to the side as she gingerly picked up a chip just slathered in cheese, trying to avoid getting any on her fingers. "Triangle food..." Marco heard her mutter as she was about to bite into it but was interrupted by a knock at the back door. Star turned toward the door with a puzzled look on her face while Marco walked over to the door, tense and ready to fight. His mom would have just come through the front door if it was her with the movie.
Marco slid the oven mitts off and set them on the table as he opened the door, looking left and right for anything suspicious. Star stood a few feet behind him, more curious than worried.
"YO, WASSUP HOME FRIES!!!" A voice said near Marco's face but above and out of his line of sight. Marco screamed a sort of girlish scream and attempted to punch whatever had just spoken but ended up falling on his back. Meanwhile, Star let out a massive gasp and a big smile on her her. It was the biggest smile she'd given since she came here. "I can't believe it... Flying Princess Ponyhead?! It's really you?" Star said, her blue eyes wide with surprise and happiness.
"Of course it's me B-Fly! Ha ha!! I can't believe it! You've changed so much since," Ponyhead said with a glance at Marco, who was rubbing his head with his hand. "Um, since your... Uh, trip. Yeah, that's it." Ponyhead finished unconvincingly. Ponyhead shook out her pink mane, feigning confidence, while Star stood there still in amazement and gleefulness.
"Anywho B-Fly, I came 'cause I wanted to see if you wanted to party! Y'know, like old times." Ponyhead said with joyful giggle that sounded a little like a neigh. Star bounced on the soles of her feet, trying to contain her delight. Her best friend for nearly her whole life came to hang out, even though she knew she would have changed from her stay at St. Olga's Reform School For Wayward Princesses.
Star felt a bit sad at that last thought. She had changed a lot. She was more serious and showed her emotions less. She was studious and calm instead of her wild and reckless self before the whole kingdom-set-on-fire incident. But, like a true heiress to the throne, she refused to show that slight sorrow.
Star grinned widely and replied, nervously poking the toe of her flats at the ground as she spoke, "Sure Ponyhead... Just let me wake up Marco." She glanced pointedly at Marco on the ground. Looking too shocked to move on his own much.
Ponyhead's face seemed genuinely astonished as she asked, "Oh, wait that's not a dead person???" Star giggled and covered her hand with her mouth instinctively.
"Not... Dead..." Marco groaned. He sat up and blinked in surprise at Ponyhead. He gazed at her before saying, "Did the birthday mafia pay us a visit and give us this? Or is this real?" Marco said as he got up shakily and dusted off his black skinny jeans and red leather jacket.
Star gave him a confused look while Ponyhead replied with narrowed eyes and deep frown, "No... Just no... I've been here before, earth turd. And FYI, I'm here to hang out with my bestie. So if you'll excuse us..." Ponyhead said as she cut open a portal with her dimensional scissors.
"Woah woah woah woah. Woah. I can't let you just leave Star. Not that I wouldn't mind if ya left," Marco said dismissively waving his hand, acting as if he couldn't care less what happened to her, but he did. He just didn't want to show it, since it seemed to show weakness to others. "But I have to because my mom would KILL ME if I let her 'precious exchange student' go with a floating horse head to God knows where!!! I'm comin' with." Marco crossed his arms and looked at the two as if daring them to argue. His bad boy rep and pride would never let him admit that he was genuinely concerned with Star's safety.
"Oh, I don't think you both were properly introduced..." Star said as everyone grew quiet. Marco raised an eyebrow, saying with his face, 'We kinda figured it out though' but he didn't say anything. Star cleared her throat daintily and announced "Marco Diaz, this is Flying Princess Ponyhead. Ponyhead this is Marco Diaz." Marco nodded to Ponyhead, putting up a polite act for the moment. He could get on Ponyhead's nerves later. Ponyhead rolled her cerulean eyes that had stars as her pupils and huffed. Marco noticed as Ponyhead turned to the portal, he saw she had little hearts on both sides of her her neck. Like Star had her hearts on her cheeks.
"Come on you two! Let's partayyy!!!" Ponyhead neighed in excitement as she ushered Marco and Star through the portal. Before she closed the portal, she checked behind her as if to be sure she wasn't followed. Once Ponyhead saw it was clear she went through and closed up the portal that make a whoosh as it shut.
As if on cue, three odd men-like creatures came from another portal into the Diaz's now deserted backyard. The shortest one who seemed to be the leader bent down to study some glitter left behind. It was definitely from the Princess Ponyhead. "Hmm..." He said as he tasted it to be sure. "Glitter... She was here boys..." He muttered as he cut another portal nearby, headed toward another dimension that was near this one. The portal closed with a futuristic zap once everyone had gotten through. A few minutes afterward, Mr. and Mrs. Diaz came home. Mrs. Diaz from getting the movie and Mr. Diaz from work.
"Marco... Star..." Mrs. Diaz called as she stepped inside. She got worried for a second before remembering what the Mr. and Mrs. Butterfly said. That if Star was able to return to a version of her self from before her 'visit' they kept mentioning, she would often disappear without a note or a reason. Instead Mr. and Mrs. Diaz popped the disk into the DVD player and took the nachos that were on the plate in the kitchen and watched the movie.
