Chapter eleven- "Was I Lost?"
Marble woke up early that morning. Scorch was leaning over her.
"Good, you're awake" he said.
Hrailen was waiting nearby with a red pouch in her claws. Scorch was already wearing his, and Hrailen came to give her the other one.
"Thank you" said Marble. She ripped off the old seaweed pouch she'd made, and emptied the remaining gems she had into the new one. She slung it around her neck, it fit perfectly. The material it was made out of was soft, and it felt strong, too.
Hrailen gave Scorch the Vren Dand.
"For it to work, you both have to be holding on to each other. Then you must both close your eyes, and think of where you want to go. You have to tell it. Don't open your eyes until the wind stops. Ok?" She explained.
"Ok" replied both Marble and Scorch. Marble held onto Scorches arm.
"To Artica?" Asked Marble.
"To Artica" agreed Scorch.
Marble thanked Hrailen, and closed her eyes.
For a moment, nothing happened. But then a strong gust of wind rushed past her ears. The sound was almost defending. The wind nearly tore Marble from Scorches arm. She didn't want to find out what would happen if she let go of him, so she held on with all her strength. The wind blew her around, it pulled at her wings. Marble was determined to hold on.
The wind stopped as quickly as it had started. Marble opened her eyes, and was blinded by the sun. She blinked several times to adjust to the brightness of the setting sun. She felt air rush past her, and realized she was falling. She flapped hard to regain control, and saw that Scorch was doing the same. Once both dragons had righted themselves, they drifted down to the ground. All they saw were mountains, really tall mountains. They landed, and looked around. Scorch put the Vren Dand carefully back into his pouch.
Not too far from where they were standing, a pale grey dragon stood in the shadows of a shallow hole in the mountainside. She was watching them carefully. Probably wondering why two dragons had randomly fallen out of the sky. Marble stared at the dragon, and they made eye contact. The other dragon blinked her blue eyes at her, and she emerged from the shadows.
She spread her blue-silver wings and glided towards them. She was just slightly larger than Marble was, but still smaller than Scorch. Her skin was pale, like the stone walls of her cave back home.
"Why would a Bloodwing and a Timewing be traveling together?" She asked.
"Who are you?" Asked Scorch.
"Would you by any chance be Artica?" He asked.
"Yes, I am" she replied, looking confused.
"We found you!" Exclaimed Marble.
"Found me? Was I lost?" Asked Artica.
Marble spent the next while telling her everything. She told her how Granite had given her a mission, to go find her. She talked about how the Bloodwings had attacked, and how she'd met Scorch. Then she told her about queen Scarlet being alive, and how they'd found the Kingdom of the Buried, and the quest they'd given her and Scorch. Then she'd told her about the Vren Dand.
When she was done, Marble asked:
"Where are we, by the way?"
"Near the Sky kingdom" Artica had said.
"Why are you here?" Wondered Marble.
"Finding out information about the queens. Spying. Watching for the dragonets of destiny. You've heard of the prophecy, haven't you? Brightest night?".
