Chapter fourteen- The Shadow Arrest

Marble was being whisked away, farther and farther into the trees. Branches, long and sharp and whip-like, stung her skin where they hit her on the way by.

She tried to wiggle out, but strong arms gripped her so tightly that she couldn't move. She opened her mouth to protest, but something gripped her snout and held it shut. Whatever was carrying her stopped, and she heard rustling and a snap. Then something was being tied around her snout, securing it shut. She struggled against the grip that wrestled her to the ground. Something was tying up her wings, arms, and legs.

Her capturer folded her back under their wings, and Marble was pretty sure that it was a dragon, since she could hear rough breathing, and feel scratchy scales rubbing against her skin.

All Marble could see was blackness, as she was being raced away from her friends. She imagined their shock when they turned around and saw that Marble was gone, no where to be seen. She wondered what her capturer wanted with her, and where they were taking her so quickly. Her tail dragged against the soggy ground, bouncing against rocks, fallen branches, and brushing through puddles. Marble remembered the deadly spike at the end of her tail, and tried curling it around to jab her capturer. Spear met scales, and the dragon carrying her gasped, dropped her, then growled.

Something whacked her hard in the head.

She barely formed the thought, down again,  before she went limp.

----------------------------

Water splashed over Marble's head. Freezing cold water.

Marbles eyes opened immediately, and she banged her head on something hard. It was the hollowed out rock that they had used to pour water on her head. 'They' were four younger looking, pitch black dragons, with curious bloodshot eyes who were leaning over her. Most of them were only slightly larger than her, meaning they were probably only a few years older than she was. One of them was twice as large as her, though. He looked quite a bit older than the others, and his right hip was bleeding. That must have been the dragon that had stolen her from her friends.

She was lying inside a massive, hollow tree. Her snout, wings, arms, and legs were still tied up. She tried to move her tail, but it was tied down to a root in the ground.

Her head was ringing from the blow she took  last night.

The dying sun poured in from a small entrance. It was being concealed by some branches, so that no dragons who were wandering by would see it.

Clever. Except now that they know I exist, I have to kill them, Marble thought grudgingly. Stupid NightWings. I hate killing.

She scowled up at her captors, and twitched her tail impatiently.

They peered back, still curious. All but the largest one, who scowled back at her.

"Who are you?" Asked the smallest one. Her voice was squeaky and high pitched.

"What are you, more importantly," said a dark-grey eyed one. His scales were more purple than black. Marble thought it was peculiar that he had a perfect star-like scale next to each eye. He stared down at her, a puzzled look on his face.

Something you really aren't supposed to know  about, Marble thought. She thought she imagined his mouth twitch, as if to smile. Wary, she ignored it.

"Where did you come from?" Asked a third, who immediately began to study every inch of her.

"Hrmmph!" Snorted Marble.
