We arrived at Worldwide Studios, and it was incredible! It was way bigger than Global Studios! Mia stared wide eyed at the ginormous structure. "That's Worldwide Studios?!" She exclaimed. I nodded.
"Come on, let's go." She stood there for a bit before following close behind. We went inside the studio to find the manager. "Okay, now where is the manager supposed to be?"
"Can I help you?" Someone asked. I turned around and saw a timid looking girl standing in front of me.
"Um yes! We're looking for the manager! Do you know where we might find him?"
"Do you have an appointment?"
"A what?"
"An appointment..with the manager?"
"Um no, but I'm an old 'friend' of his, shall I say." This woman was getting way too suspicious of us. She asked us to leave.
"Listen, I don't have time for your stories. We don't have any tours today either. So if you could please-"
"That's quite enough, Ms. Assistant!" There was a grand male voice filling the hallway. "I'll take it from here!"
"Wait...I know that voice!" I looked up to see a buff man in a suit, walking towards us and clapping loudly.
"Long time no see, Sara!" He exclaimed.
"Mr. Sheppard! How nice to see you! Surprisingly, you haven't changed a bit during these past ten years!"
"Oh, you flatter me! On the other hand, you've grown so much! You were so little the last time I saw you! Speaking of, where's Mr. Engarde?"
"You mean Matt? He's um....in jail."
"In jail?! How did that come to pass?!"
"Matt's accused of killing his own mother."
"Trisha's dead?! How did I not hear of this?! She was one of my best actresses!"
"She's not yours anymore." I said, narrowing my eyes.
"Well! This is truly some sad news! Did you just come here to tell me this?"
"No, you see, I am now a lawyer, and I'm representing Matt. I came here to see if you knew anything."
"Well, obviously I had no idea that she was dead in the first place, so why are you asking me?"
"Would you know anything about the victim?" Mia stepped in.
"Oh? And who is this?" He asked.
"I'm Mia Fey, attorney at law." She held her hand out to him. He took it and shook it vigorously.
"Well, nice to meet you! My name is Kain Sheppard! I'm the manager of Worldwide Studios."
"Very nice to meet you! Now, if you could please tell us anything big you know about the victim, that would be great!" Mia said.
"Of course! I'll do anything I can to help!" He led us to his office and got us some coffee. As we sat down, he pushed a drawer into his desk. He then looked at us, intriguingly. "Now, ask away!" Mia and I looked at each other and nodded. Then we turned back to Mr. Sheppard.
"Mr. Sheppard, do you know anything about the victim?" I asked.
"She is Matt's mother, you should know everything about her."
"Well....any extra information?"
"All I know is that she was one of my best actresses!"
I sighed. "This guy is air tight! He won't tell us anything!" I turned to Mia. "Looks like this is all we're going to get out of him."
"No, keep on the offensive. He's hiding something." Mia narrowed her eyes. I shrugged and turned back to Mr. Sheppard. "Um well.."
"Oh! Look at the time! I have a little errand to run! You're welcome to stay as long as you like."
"Thank you!" I thanked him and he left the room.
"Okay! Now's the chance to snoop around!" Mia said with a mischievous smile on her face.
"I don't like that look.." I said. "So, what do you suppose we do?"
"There." She pointed towards the desk. "Before our conversation he pushed something under his desk. There's gotta be something over there." I nodded and peeked under the desk.
"There are some papers here."
"Take them out! They could be important!" Mia ordered. I took the papers out of the desk.
"Ah! No way!" I took the papers that I already had, and matched it with these. They were a perfect fit. "W-why? Why does he have these?!"
"I knew he had something to do with this." Mia said.
"Mia?"
"Let's get back to the Office."
"Are you sure this is legal? We're stealing something from him."
"This is evidence in a criminal case. We have probable cause. Don't worry about it."
"Okay." I took the papers from his desk, and replaced it with some other ones. Then we sat right back down and waited for him. After a few minutes he came back. It looks like he didn't notice the papers.
"Now, where were we?" He asked with a smile as he sat down.
"Oh! Uh! Actually, we were just leaving! We got all the info we need! We'll be going now! Thank you!" We got up and left the room.
"Wait!" He yelled. I stopped and flinched. "How did you like the tea? My assistant made it, you know?"
I turned around and bowed. "It was delicious." I turned to the door and walked out. "Ah! That was so nerve racking! I though he figured out we had the evidence!"
"Well, we got away with it! Let's get outta here before he realizes!" Mia and I hurried out of the studio and drove back to the office. We layed out the evidence so we could put it together.
"Let's see, we have the autopsy report. The victim died at 4:30 PM, the same time as my watch which was dropped at the scene of the crime. Cause of death: Stabbed repeatedly. Matt Engarde's fingerprints are found on the murder weapon. Paper with Matt's name on it which is written in the victim's blood. And then we have these papers that were found in the victim's drawer. Looks like we have some pretty good evidence." I yawn. "It's getting pretty late."
"You should get some rest for the trial tomorrow. Since we never got to look over these papers together, I thought I should take a look at it while you rest."
"Are you sure? Aren't you going to be helping me?"
"You'll be the one doing all the work. I don't mind losing a little bit of sleep over this."
"Okay." I nodded. "Tell me about it tomorrow."
"I will. The trial starts at 9:00 tomorrow, but I want you to come to the office early so we can discuss the evidence one more time."
"Okay." I nodded and turned to leave. "Goodnight Mia!"
"Goodnight Sara! Good luck!" She waved back. I closed the door behind me, and walked back to my house.
"Tomorrow's the day! The day I get you acquitted, Matt! Okay! Let's do this!"
