"Hurry up!", my best friend Rose Weasley hollers as she bangs her fist against the bathroom door. "We need to get our dresses!"

I roll my eyes and swipe a layer of lip balm on my lips. I grab my wand and scarf, then exit the bathroom to find Rose sitting on her bed, waiting.

"You're finally done?",she asks, impatient. I nod and we leave the common room.

"I hope we don't run into your blasted jerk of a cousin, Rose," I mutter as we walk to the carriages.

Rose laughs. "Come on, Y/n. He's not that bad."

"Are you kidding?" I scoff. "He's been a jerk to me ever since I met him. I try to be nice, but he just pushes me away."

Rose gives me a knowing look as we climb in. And who should climb in next to us but the ginger git himself.

And, of course, he just had to sit next to me.

"Rosie," he greets my best friend cheerfully. His face becomes emotionless as he turns to face me. "L/N."

"Weasley," I return in the same bored tone. "A shame you're still alive."

"Right back at you. But I wouldn't want Rosie to hate me forever, now would I? I'd rather "accidentally" spill poison in your pumpkin juice."

"You're a charming one, aren't you, Weasley?"

There are just so many bloody colors. Red, blue, green, yellow, white, black, grey, etc. I browse through the racks intently, but nothing catches my eye. Rose has already chosen hers, so now we're looking for mine together.

"What about this one?" Rose asks, holding up a long-sleeved grey dress with lace at the hem.

"It's pretty, but let's keep looking, just in case," I say, turning back to the rack.

That's when I saw it- my dress. It wasn't a color I would normally wear, but it was beautiful. I showed it to Rose. "Perfect," she says. "Go try it on."

I nod as I carry it to the dressing room.

Minutes later, I stand in front of the full-length mirror and peer at the stranger in front of me.

The dress is as white as snow. It's strapless and flows at the ankles, with little pearls and beads patterned across the bodice in a beautiful manner. It hugs the girl's curves perfectly and compliments her long hair. Her clear skin and large eyes make her look somewhat like a porcelain doll.

The girl moves along with me as I raise my right hand a bit. I move it back to my side, then step out of the dressing room to show Rose. We pay for the dresses and leave.

"Rose, I have an idea," I say, unzipping the bag that holds my dress as we get ready for the Masquerade.

"What is it?"

"What if we put a Confundus Charm on our masks so that no one knows who we are unless we take off our masks?"

"Brilliant, Y/N," she says, smiling. "Now come on, let's get your makeup and hair done."

Rose begins to work her magic on my hair, parting it into sections and curling it. She tops it with a small pearl and feather hair ornament, then starts on my makeup.

After she's done with that, we put our dresses on, then we place the charms on our masks. I make a mental note to remove the charm on the mask before sending it back to my aunt. "Ready?", I ask her.

"Yep.", she says and we head to the Great Hall.

I'm not sure how many people I've danced with, but I know a lot.  My feet ache a bit and I haven't eaten anything since Rose and I got here two hours ago. I search the Great Hall, looking for her.

"Excuse me."

I whirl around to see a masked Fred.

"Yes?" I ask

"Well, I was standing across the room, and I wanted to know who you are; you look so familiar." He says, blushing a bit.

"I'm afraid I can't tell you," I reply softly.

"Then will you at least dance with me?" He asks, extending a hand.

I blush as well. "Of course."

He leads me out onto the dance floor and we twirl around the room. "Please tell me who you are," he says after a good ten minutes, begging me.

I look down. "What... if I told you that you hate me?"

"What? I could never hate you. You enchant me." He insists, lifting my chin up with a gentle hand.

I can't bear this anymore. I dash out of the Great Hall with Fred hot on my heels. I'm about to round the corner when someone catches my hand. Fred.

"I don't know who you are, but I know, deep inside, that Merlin, I love you, and I can't lose you," he says, his eyes piercing mine, but still soft. He presses his lips to mine gently, and I respond after a few seconds, the kiss lingering even after we pull apart.

But I turn around.

And I run.
