I frowned and slowly started to make my way back to the house, grabbing some spare clothes at that and shifting back into human-form. Even through the mind-link he sounded so serious, which scared me more than I cared to admit.
When I had finally reached the Alpha’s office I opened the door to see a very tired Alpha and Sarah sitting in one of the two chairs that sat in front of his desk. They’re eyes both turned to me as I blanked my face and leant on the doorway.
“What’s up, Alpha?” I cheerily smiled. Neither of the wolves cracked a smile.
Alpha sighed and motioned for me to sit down. What is this? I thought. I know that Alpha had been gone for a couple of days, headed to a council meeting between the heads of all the packs. Or at least. The head of the packs in this area. There were a couple other councils out there for different countries or states and they all collated every couple of years or so.
But if there was really anything bad to report I would have known about it. Been the Warrior of the pack, I would have been the first to know. Probably would have gone to the meeting too.
I submitted myself a look of confusion and crossed my legs on the rather uncomfortable seat.
“It’s gotten worse, Ace.” He said. I let out a short laugh of that.
“It’s been getting worse for the past decade, and even with my kill numbers I-.” He cut me off
“They want you to move out.” I frowned, I was never under orders by the council, sure they tired, but in the end they had discovered that it was best if I was part of a pack but under the higher-archy of no-one. A some-what rogue if you may. But I still had to put on a show.
“Orders? Who do they bloody think they-!” I roared, only to be cut off annoyingly yet again but a raised hand of the Alpha.
“We all know the certain….special circumstances the council have decided for you. But we really do need your help.” He looked desperately at me and Sarah tightened her grip on their enclosed hands.
“Look,” I said. “You all know I try my hardest to help out when I can. I’m training the mutts here and just this year I have already tracked down over 8 rogue packs and hunter groups.”
“I know that you are already doing so much, especially with your certain past.” I winced. “But there are packs out there that are less defended. Less protected and in dire need of any help.” The Alpha sounded sincere, but I could sense there was an underline between his words.
“Alright, fine, but.” I leaned forward menacingly “Cut the bullshit.” Sarah gasped at my language and Alpha’s head shot up, pleadingly.
“Please, Ace. Just go.” He begged. I sighed and shifted more comfortably into my seat, delivering my message easily.
He rolled his eyes and gave a small smirk which soon dissolved into a glower. “Sarah, can you go check on Cass, she had a pretty unfair beat-down earlier.” Sarah opened her mouth to object, thought better off it and walked quickly out of the room.
“How did you know?” He asked calmly. “That training was just a cover-up?” I smirked
“I have a different view of the world than others. Makes the shit easier to smell.” He raised his eyes at my language but continued on anyway.
“Different view? More like paranoia, hate and an instant distrust of people.” His lips pursed into a small smile and he raked his hand through his overgrown hair. The air turned dark as I heard his response.
“Do you blame me!?” I hissed. “After everything, you’re really going to hit me with that!”
Alpha backed up slightly in the chair at my tone and then recovered his position and slammed his hand onto the desk. I lowered my head, knowing I had gone too far. He may not hold any Alpha power over me. But he was still a man to be feared and respected. Sensing my guilt he calmed.
“You jump too quickly Ace, and one day you’ll get burned.” Thing was, I had already been burned so many times I seemed quite immune to it. I shrugged uncaringly. Alpha continued. “We have heard some…reports.” My spine grew rigged at his words. Report? “We think he’s getting closer.”
Dread filled me. Closer? But we tried so hard to keep me hidden. This is exactly what I said and was award with a sad nod. He had been looking for me. Still, he was searching for me. Even after I changed my name, even after all these years? And no, I’m not talking about my mate. I growled at the word. But my biological Father.
I had accepted the fact a while ago, after seeing how futile it was to continue ignoring the fact that my “Father” was the murderer of my parents, and most likely all the others killed over multiple attacks.
My”Father” known as the Leader of the Rogues. We were all shocked after receiving the inside info on the rogue leader claiming to be “King” of the werewolves.
It had started with a simple name that Alpha Bayden had told me (before my dramatic running away scene). That then led us to encrypted files and top-secret documents which caused us to find Mike.
But even after Mike shifting through all the information on my “Father” we came across stop roads and misleading signs. This man was a ghost in the informative world, and a demon in ours.
Then someone had noticed our search for the ‘dark man’ as they called him. This someone had sent us threatening messages which we all ignored, until it started to get severe. We were sent jars of blood or ears or other cut-off body parts. You know, normal creepy-ass stuff like that. But we ignored the warnings. Then we were sent killers.
Our small group consisting of Alpha, Sarah, Cass, Mike, Arty and I were attacked in the small out of town hotel we were staying at. An inside source was going to rendezvous with us about some important information referring to the dark man.
It was a bloody night and we barely managed to escape with our lives. Arty: our analyst perse, didn’t make it. His death had hit us hard and we just...stopped searching.
Then world came out on the streets of a bounty on the head of one Alexis Morbern. To be brought in alive for a hell of a lot of money. The details contained my description and we all decided it best if we proceeded more cautiously with my identity e.g. Change who I was completely.
