New york. The city who never sleep. The city where the lights are always on. The city where it's never quit or peaceful. New york is also the city where all the freaks, outcasts and misfits gather. Anyone who isn't "normal", such as my self, usually ends up here.

Winter would soon be coming. I could feel it in the air. How it had become cold and unfriendly. Just like my mom.

I was walking down the street. The people that I walked by didn't notice me. They never do. But that makes my... Uh, "job" much easier.

I looked up at the sky. Dark clouds covered up the usual blue skye. The buildings reached up to the sky, and I could even see some birds flying around. They were free. Free to do whatever they wanted. When they wanted it. They didn't need anyones permission. They just needed their wings. Is that what I need as well? Wings that could take me away from the gloomy New york?

I started looking through the crowd of people. I was looking for someone who's in a hurry. Someone with large pockets, and someone that's distracted on something else. It didn't took long until I found the perfekt guy. He was walking in a fast pace. Sweat were running down his forehead. He was holding a phone against his ear, talking to someone. I took a deep breath, and started walking against him. He came closer and closer. Our shoulder collided, and I quickly sputtered out a apology. Then I walked away. Not too fast, but not too slow. When I were a few meter away did I finally look at what I was holding in my hand. It was a leather wallet. It was thick and heavy, and when I opened it up did I see quite a lot of money. But I also saw the mans driving license and his ID. And there were also a photo. It was the man with a happy looking women. A young child were in beyween them. She smiled against the camera and showed all her teeths. Like she were proudly showing up how good of a girl she was.

The guilt started to grow inside of me. I looked up to the sky again, thinking for a few seconds, before I turned around. I ran as quickly as I could to the man I had just robbed. He were a few metres ahead of me. I ran so fast i could. My heart was beating like a drum. The man was so close. I opened up the wallet and took out a little money. Not all, but a little. I stashed the money in my pockets before I tapped the guy on his shoulder.

"Excuse me sir, but you dropped this." I said with a false smile and held up his wallet. His lips turned into a relieved smile.

"Thank you, girl. My wife would have killed me if I'd lost all my money." I just nodded and handed over his wallet. The money that were in my pocket felt heavier and heavier. Like a rock.

I don't like stealing. I really don't. But it's the only way for me and for my sister to survive. I don't like it, but I don't have any other choice.

I waved goodbye at the man and started to walk away.
