The first thing I noticed when I awoke was that my sister wasn't beside me. She's always beside me. She doesn't like living in the sewers. So my sister always stay close to me. I quickly looked around me, trying to find the eight year old. I left out a breath of release when I saw her sitting on the ground, reading one of the comics I bought for her.

I think it was a old Batman comic. Or maybe it's Superman? I don't know. I'm not really in to all the superhero stuff. I'm not even sure why Madison likes it so much. Maybe it's because she likes the idea of someone that's out there, protecting people. Someone who's never afraid to risk his or hers own life in order to do the right thing. A hero.

Maybe that's why I don't like superheros. Because I know that there's no "Superman" to save you in the real world. There is only you who can save yourself. Unless...

Then I suddenly remembered what happened last night. The memories rained over me. I remember the... weird thing I saw. The one with the green eyes. I remember chasing after him and the fear of being lost. But I also remembers him helping me out. He lead me back to my little sister. And when I turned around to thank him, he was gone. Just like that. As if he never existed. I hadn't even heard his fotsteeps.

I brought my palm to my forehead. It's not hot, so I'm not sick. Then everything that happened last night really happened...

Holy turtle.
Holy what?

I shook my head. As if I was trying to shake of the ideas of last night. It can't have been real, right? A giant, talking, mutated turtle? With a mask, on top of it all? No. It can't have been real. It was just a dream. A dream. Nothing else.

He's not real.

"Who was it you were talking to?" My sister asked me, causing me to jump. The girl had stopped reading her comic and now looked at me with her curious, brown eyes.

He's real. If my sister also saw him, that must mean that it wasn't just a dream.

"Who?" I stuttered like a idiot.

"Doctor who of course." She said with a sarcastic tone. I let out a small laugh.

"You talked to someone-" She suddenly started coughing. I quickly leaped out of the madrass and walked up to her. I took of my dirty jacket and put it over her shoulders. My hand came in contact with her bare skin.

"You're freezing. Have you eaten anything?" Madison nodded her head.

"I'm fine." She said with a weak voice. Her weak voice hit me like a fist to the stomach. I hate seeing her like this. She doesn't deserve any of this.

"You're a bad lier." I said. She laughed, but it sounded more painful that playful. Madison doesn't laugh a lot anymore. But when she do, it's always with pain. It's scary to see hear like this. It's scary knowing that I can't do anything to help her.

"Then it must run in the family." She coughed ones more, and I sat beside her. I have to do something. Anything.

"I'll buy some medicin today." I said to her.

"Don't you mean steal?" Madison said underneath her breath. I sighed. Why does the girl have to be so smart? She's only eight years old. She's just a kid.

"I'll make this better. I swear. I'll get a job and we can buy a apartment. You'll get your own room and you'll be able to read as many comics you want to." I really want that future for her, for us. Madison smiled at me. It was a weak smile. But still a hopefull one.

"Sure, Charlotte." I cringed at my name. That name, was not me. It was everything but me.

"I don't like that name. I've told you to call me Charlie."

"I know. I just like to annoy you." I smiled at my sister and pulled her closer to me.

How am I suppose to get her medicin?
