I've tried not to think about the green turtle. But it's impossible. It feels like I'm going crazy.
Is he real? It would be easier if he isn't. Because then I wouldn't have to think about me in a mental hospital. But Madison saw him too. Kind of. She never actually saw him, she just heard me talking to someone.
What if I'm going... Insane? The mere thought of it makes my blood freeze.
I shook my head. No. I can't be distracted right now. Distracted people makes mistakes. Mistakes is something I want to avoid.
I looked up at the drugstore. The sign showed that it was open. It also showed that the store would close in ten minutes. I've choosen this store and this time carefully. This store is small. It doesn't have a lot of security. A few cameras and just those who works there. And the timing is perfekt. It's dark outside and the workers are tired after a long day of work. They'll be less likely to notice a few things missing from the shelfs.
I took a deep breath before I pushed the door open. I pulled on my dark hoodie. A calm music could be heard through the store. It was only me, the lady in the disk and a old man that stood by the disk, talking to the lady. The man looked bitter and angry. As if someone stole his candy.
I walked slowly toward the medicin that Madison needs. The cover package had bright colours and a young girl who were flashing her white theets. It was almost as if she was in a toothpaste comercial.
I stopped in front of the shelf. My palms were sweating. My heart was beating so fast that I was afraid that someone would hear it.
I located the camera, and turned my back against it. So that what I was going to do wasn't going to get caught on camera. I reached out my hand and took two packages. I inspected one of them. As if I was just a ordinary customer, looking at this product. It feelt as if the old mans eyes were burning two holes in my neck. My hands were shaking when I put back the package. I quickly let the other package of medicin slip into my pocket.
I let out a relieved sight. Okay. Now it's time to leave. I turned around. I almost jumped when I saw a young woman in front of me. It was the same lady that used to stand in the disk.
My heart was beating like a drum underneath my breast. But of course, I didn't let it show. I smiled a warm smile against the lady, who to my relief smiled back.
"Can I help you with anything?" She asked. Thank god. She didn't see me stealing.
"No thanks! I was just looking." I said with a calm voice. The worker smiled at me, and then walked away. I turned around and walked up to the door. My heart wasn't beating so fast anymore. I was just relieved that Madison now can get her medicin. Her cough is getting worse for every day. It's scary. What if she's really sick?
A hand reached out and grabbed my arm. He held my in a thight grepp, and by surprise did I scream a little. I quickly shut up when I saw the cold eyes of the old men.
"What did you do?" His voice were filled with anger. His voice made me feel so small.
"N-Nothing!" I lied and tried to get away from his grip. But it was impossible. His nails were digging into my arm.
His other hand reacked out for my pocket. My eyes widen. Madison needs this medicin! I used all of my power and managed to push the man away from me. He tried to grab me again, and as a impulse did I reach for the closest shelf. The shelf fell to the grund with a bang. Bottles broke, and medicin layed on the floor. Before I even had the chance of running away did a aloud alarm echoe through the store. The young lady must have pressed the alarm botton.
I pushed open the door. My feets tarted to move. I ran as quickly as I could, away from the drugstore. But I couldn't run away from the fear that crept over me.
What did I just do?
The worker at the store ran out. She pointet at me.
"Stop the thief!" She screamed, but no one listened. Not one of the bystanders tried to stop me. Why would they? It's not their problem. No one cared enough to wanting to stop a thief. No one, except for the shadow standing on the roof. I didn't see him as I ran.
I ran in to the closest alley. The darkness surrounded me from every direction. The alley had some junk al over it, just like any other alley. A empty plasticback lied on the ground. Forgotten. I stopped and leaned up against the wall. My legs hurts, and I'm still shaking from what happened. I need to be more careful next time. Next time... I hate those words. It means that I'm not done yet. I know that there will be a next time. Next time stealing.
I freeze as I saw a shadow in the corners of my eyes. Oh no. Maybe it's the police?! They've found me?! I only managed to take a few steps before someone grabbed me. The person pushed me up the wall. The person twisted my arm in a painful way. My face was turned against the brickwall. I couldn't see the person behind me, but I could feel his or hers breath against my neck.
God dammit.
"Give back what you stole." A voice said behind me. A familiar voice.
"I don't know what you're talking about! Who do you think you are?!" I yelled at him. I hope that he couldn't hear the fear in my voice. Who is he? His voice... It's as if I've heard it before.
"You know exactly what I'm talking about. Return what you stole." Realisation hit me like a brick. I know who's voice it is. I feel stupid now for not realising it sooner. But to be honest, I've only met him once. I sure wasn't ready for meeting him again. Not like this, and certainly not now.
"Turtle?"
