Nightwing P.O.V
If I hadn't been trained, Christina would probably have died. Luckily, I was able to catch her just before her body hit the ground. Unluckily, because of the way I caught her, her head still hit the ground of the cave with a terrible crack.
I turned to Bruce, who hadn't moved from where he was standing. As if catching Christina had been just another test. And people wonder why I left.
"What should I do with her?" I asked him.
"Put her in your old room," he told me. "Then change out of your costume. I'll get Alfred to check her over."
That was it. No mention of the fact that she had just made a tornado. No . Just giving me orders. I sighed as I headed upstairs. Some things will never change.
I nudged open the door to my old room and lay Christina gently on the bed. I rose and stood there for a moment, looking at her shoulder-length auburn hair splayed out on the pillow. Oddly enough, it was then that I noticed she had blue streaks in her hair.
I shook myself out of it and walked a few doors down to the room I used whenever I visited Gotham. I would have stayed at a hotel if Bruce let me, but I knew better than to try arguing with him. Anyways, it was always nice to see Tim.
I changed back into regular clothes, setting my mask down on a table, then went back to where Christina was sleeping. Alfred looked up as I entered the room.
"How is she?"
"I believe she will recover given time. She will have a knot on the back of her head, but I'm afraid she would have been much worse had you not caught her."
"I could have caught her head too."
"You mustn't blame yourself, Master Dick. Had you not caught her, she could have broken every bone in her body. Yes, perhaps it could have gone better, but it could also have gone much worse."
"Thank you, Alfred."
Alfred left and I sat in a chair by Christina's bed. Alfred had taken off her mask to check her over, so I got my first look at her face. She was really pale, although that was probably from whatever made her faint. She was beautiful, and even though I knew she wouldn't like it, I had the urge to hold her hand while she slept.
I decided to just sit in the room and wait until she woke up, not wanting to endure her wrath when she woke up. I got comfortable in my chair and settled down to spend one last night in my old room.
-Timeskip to morning because I refuse to write about hours of sleeping-
I awoke to Christina sitting up and moaning in pain.
"Are you okay?" I woke up immediately, concerned.
"I'm fine, Grayson. No thanks to you."
"Okay, first of all, stop calling me Grayson. You can call me Dick just like everyone else. Second, if not for me, you'd probably be a splat on the floor of the Batcave."
"Fine, Dick. You helped. Don't expect any gratitude from me anytime soon."
I sighed. I had no idea what I would have said to her next, but luckily we were interrupted by Bruce.
"Christina," he said, not acknowledging me as usual. "I see you're awake."
"Yep. I just overused my powers last night, which caused me to pass out. Once I recover from this," she gestured at the lump on the back of her head. "I should be just fine."
"That's great. Where are you staying in Gotham?"
"I'm renting an apartment. Why?"
"You know who we are, Christina," I reminded her. "We can't just leave you alone."
Bruce glared at me. "What Dick means to say is that we want to offer you a place on our team. You could stay in the mansion and help us on patrols at night if you want."
"Sure," she replied. "It's not like I have anything better to do. I'll just need to drop by my apartment tonight to pick up some stuff. I don't think I really want to be in this costume all the time."
"That can be arranged," Bruce told her. He extended his hand for her to shake. "Welcome to the family, Nightraven."
