I woke up in the backseat of Nightwing's car. I was pretty sure I'd only been out a few minutes.
"Was that seriously necessary?" I grumbled. "You could have broken my nose."
He glanced back at me with his bright blue eyes behind his mask. "But I didn't," he told me, as if I didn't know. "Proving once again that I am just an amazing human being."
I sighed. "Can we tone down the male ego just a little, Grayson? You haven't even bothered to ask for my name, which is very rude. I think that cancels out the not breaking my nose."
"I think it's forgivable that I didn't really think about asking your name when you somehow knew my name and freaking teleported across a roof before starting to rant about how people need better ways to conserve their secret identities."
"Well," I started. "I suppose I am a little difficult to get used to."
"If you're going to be annoyed about it, I guess I might as well ask. Who the hell are you?"
"That's a rude way to ask, but to answer your question, I'm Nightraven."
He laughed and I glared at the back of his head. "What's so funny?"
"Nightraven? Really? Could you not think of anything more original?"
"Excuse you, Grayson? I'm pretty sure Nightraven was my middle name before you started using Nightwing as a vigilante name. If anything, you're copying half of my name!"
"Fair point. Still, who said you had to use your middle name as your vigilante name?"
"I don't have to. I just always thought it was a cool name. I wasn't going to change my plans because some idiotic black-haired vigilante started using something similar as his name!" I don't know why I felt so defensive about it, nor do I know why I felt the need to justify myself to a hero I just met.
"Whoa there, 'Nightraven'. Can we tone it down with the insults? I'm sorry for copying half your name, okay? Geez."
"Sorry," I muttered.
"Forgiven," he said. "Just try and be less hostile okay? I'm not gonna hurt you."
"You literally just punched me in the face!"
"That was necessary, and I'm not sorry. Anyways, we're almost at the Batcave, so I'm going to need you to be quiet."
"Fine."
I watched through his tinted windows as we approached a wall of rock and a panel opened to admit the car. Nightwing drove us through into the fabled Batcave.
-This transition brought to you by that picture I found of a Nightwing kitten-
The rocky cave walls rose up to where I assumed the ceiling was, though I couldn't actually see it. Through the windshield, I saw the Batcave computer, which was just as impressive as I had imagined it would be, and sitting in the chair was Batman himself.
"Nightwing?" he asked, getting up out of his chair as Nightwing exited the car. "I thought you weren't going to be back for a couple more hours. What happened?"
"I found someone you need to meet," he gestured for me to come out, which I did.
"What did I tell you about bringing girls back to the Batcave, Nightwing?"
"Relax, Bruce," I told him. "I'm pretty sure I'm not like the girls he normally brings back here."
Batman glared at Nightwing. "You told her?!"
"She already knew, I swear!"
"You can relax Bruce," I said. "He hasn't told me anything. I just have the intelligence to realize who someone is when their mask covers only slightly more of their face than-"
Nightwing cut me off. "Can you not go into that again? It was annoying enough the first time," He looked at Batman. "She teleported across the roof and said she wouldn't explain how she'd done it until I brought her back here."
Batman glared at me. "So?" he prompted. "Start explaining."
"If I tell you, you'll think I'm either insane, or that I'm making it up."
"Just tell us. If we need to, we can get you to prove it later," Nightwing said, clearly irritated.
I sighed. "Fine. The short version is that I'm a demigod daughter of the Greek god Zeus. My name is Christina Shaw. As for how I teleported across the roof, it's called shadow-travel. My uncle Hades granted me access to the power."
"Okay," Nightwing said cautiously. "I'm not sure about Batman, but I could really use some proof about that."
"I figured you would," I told him. "Give me a second. The best proof I can give you takes quite a lot of focus."
They watched expectantly. I closed my eyes and conjured my coolest power, summoning a tornado. Slowly, I felt myself begin to rise off the ground. I opened my eyes and, sure enough, I was in the center of a small tornado.
I willed the tornado the grow until it reached the top of the cavern, with me floating in the center. At seeing the shocked expression on Nightwing's face, I let out a laugh. I had forgotten how fun this was. Moments later though, I felt myself get faint. I looked at my hand and found it slightly transparent.
"Oh, shit," I muttered, before I passed out. I felt the tornado disappear and knew I must be falling, but there was nothing I could do except plunge helplessly towards the Batcave floor.
