"Andy, where the fuck have you been?"

I grimaced at the exasperated look on Ashley's face. It wasn't too dissimilar to the expression of an exhausted parent.

He stood before me with both eyebrows raised, and an oversized black hoodie tugged hurriedly over warpaint stained jeans. There were violet lines from lack of sleep beneath his eyes and paint was still smeared around his neck.

What, had he been waiting up half the night just to tell me off or something?

"Crap, dude. It's a free country," I mumbled defensively, ducking around him and strolling into the hotel room.

The place was paved with shiny white tiles and scattered with fluffy beige rugs. Everything was so neat and simple - compared to the pigsty of our tour buss it was almost impossible to get used to.

Distant snores were wafting into the room, informing me that the rest of the band were all asleep.

"Yeah, but Jon's been on our case all night," Ashley protested after me as I shrugged off my jacket and tossed it over the back of a chair. "You know how he gets - oh sorry, hi!"

He had stopped to stare in alarm at Violet, who was still hovering awkwardly on the shaggy doormat.

I instantly felt like a git.

"Sorry," I said guiltily, feeling my face heat up. "Sorry, this is -"

"Violet," Violet offered quickly, cutting me off. "I'm Andy's... uh... well, friend, I guess."

Picking up instantly on the way she stumbled around the word, I felt an amused grin tug at my lips.

I flashed her a wink over Ashley's shoulder, causing her to flush bright pink.

Ashley glanced quickly between the two of us, seeming to put something together. The corners of his mouth twitched up into a little smile.

"Awesome to meet you," he said to Violet, opening up the door to let her in.

She grinned widely, dimples popping out in her cheeks. "Really awesome to meet you too."

I had to bite back a laugh at the way she said it; as if Ashley was the guy who had invented the sun or something.

After politely refusing something to drink or eat, Violet moved to join me as I collapsed down onto one of the plush white sofas. She crossed her legs loosely beside me while I kicked my feet up on the glass coffee table.

It was only now that I realized how drained I actually was.

How long had we been gone?

What was the time?

"I'm Ashley," Ashley was telling Violet. "Practically Andy's brother."

"I know that," she said quickly. "I mean, I know your band. I listen to you a lot. To the point where it's- a lot. I'm not too different to that chick with the uh, with the green hair who's poster you signed before the show. You know, the one one with the peirced eyebr-"

Ashley was grinning, clearly finding her flustered self endearing. "You mean you're a fan?"

Violet perked instantly at the word 'fan.' She leaned forward eagerly, clasping her hands together against her chest. She looked so cute.
