Part 13: Texting and Talking

"Kelly- you will never EVER guess what I did last night. Be prepared, when you get back into town... I'm going to blow you away."

I sent the text feeling so ridiculously smug. It was close to 6pm, I'd really just woken a couple of hours earlier and I'd been dedicating myself to cleaning the whole time. As I thought it over, or caught sight of the bed, I would laugh. How fucking random! How... random.

Me- Sara Estrada- having a one nighter. On it's own, it was pretty incredible to believe, I'm not a one nighter type of woman. No, I have nothing against it- each unto their own. If you're into it-great, but like I mentioned before, I'm not big on people invading my personal space. And it wasn't just any one night stand- it was Jake. Out of all the people in this world... Jake. Jake. Jake.

I shook my head- stop saying it. It was so bizarre. I'd spent so many years denying myself the privilege of saying it, even thinking it and yet here I was repeating it: Jake.

"Don't be mean, give me a clue!"

I read the response on my cellphone and almost died laughing. Poor Kelly, she was out of town with her husband's family. I sighed- fine. Fine.

"Jake Evans- I reconnected with Jake Evans. Coffee on Monday night?"

The response was immediate.

"Yes."

I could already see her mind exploding. I looked around as I continued to clean. I was just so pleased with myself. This was going to be so much fun to tell Dr. Alejo about next week. I didn't even care if I never heard from him or saw him again- last night I'd slept with my high school crush and it was amazing. It was really great. The chemistry- wow.  Somewhere in the space time continuum, 16 year old Sara's head was exploding. It was like a strange feeling of closure on something that I didn't realize I even needed or wanted closure on.

I laughed as I tossed myself on the bed and snuggled next to my pillow. Oh the circles life goes in...

I heard my phone beep when I would have drifted back into sleep. It was a lazy Saturday but I reached for it. I bet Kelly's dying to hear details. It was always the same- whenever I warned her I had something juicy to tell her she texted me non stop, begging.

Then I stared at the number, not quite recognizing it before I opened the text.

I sat up and stared. It was Jake.

"How's your day going?"

It was Jake. I looked at the time, nearly 6:30pm... he was at his brother's wedding. Was he texting me from the reception?

"Good, lazy- how's the wedding?"

I replied, suddenly thinking he must have been serious about seeing me again today. I lay back against the pillows, wondering if it was a good idea. So far, the encounter had been perfect. I should let it end on a high note.

Of course, it could end equally great if we extended it to last the rest of the weekend.

"It's great. Of course, you could see for yourself if you had me on snapchat." He replied.

I frowned.

"haha- I never use my snapchat. Add me."

It was true- I never used snapchat. I had it, the app was on my phone but I never used it. It just seemed like it was more for the younger generation. A few seconds later, my phone sent me a notification that Jake Evans had added me.

There's something you should know, something that everyone I've ever been friends with has told me. I am, without a doubt, the worst texter ever. EVER. I'm awkward, I never know what to say and I get easily distracted or forget to hit send so often times, you won't get a response. Still, after a few hours of scattered texting and feeling quite proud of myself for texting that steadily, even Jake figured it out.
