We spotted Cordelia, the orange-haired mermaid, far out in the ocean. Her head was above water and she was swaying her tail with the water. Cordelia, unlike her mother, had the ability to go from feet to tail until she graduated and began her story.

Patrick flew us closer to the water and Cordelia finally noticed us, smiling. "You ready?"

I was slightly cautious especialley after Patrick hurled me into the water. "What do we have to do?"

"Well, I can't give you fins or anything," She smiled wryly. "But I can give you something that'll help you breathe for a while." Then she swam closer to us. "But I have to warn you, humans aren't allowed in the kingdom so you can only watch from a distance."

"No problem matie." Patrick grinned in the most offending pirate imitation I'd ever heard.

"Also, watch out for sharks," Cordelia smirked. "They're really hungry tonight since mother won't feed them."

I narrowed my eyes towards Patrick.I'd have to watch my back. Patrick had a record for getting me into all kinds of trouble.

------------------------------------------

Cordelia had given us a weird pill and soon we were in the water. I did my best to follow the mermaid as she swam farther and farther away from the surface. However, it was hard. The girl was so fast she could have beaten an olympic winner.

Patrick had even a harder time keeping up. He was far behind me and the poor guy looked to be in discomfort. I managed to roll my eyes but swam back to help him, pulling him by his arm.

I was amazed by all the fish that swam past us. Fish that I'd never seen before. Fish of all colors. Some colors I didn't even have names for. Cordelia said that some species of the water only showed themselves to those of magic or unordinary descent.

It wasn't until we'd gone so deep in the ocean that we couldn't see the light of the sun that Cordelia finally pointed to the faint outline of a castle.

I could see excitement in Patrick eyes and we hurriedly swam farther down.

The kingdom was soon revealed - and it was amazing!

A wide gold castle was the center of the kingdom. Mermaids with tails of all kinds of colors swam about. Some were carrying baskets of food while others were talking and hurrying about. I pointed out a merman with a rainbow tail and Patrick and I had a good laugh  over it.

"Can we get any closer?" Patrick asked Cordelia eagerly. His voice sounded gurgled and I giggled.

"No, sorry," Cordelia grinned. "I wasn't even suppose to show you this place."

Cordelia swam farther down into the city, mingling with some of the merpeople before she was lost in the crowd. I scoffed. "Did she really just leave us?"

"Look on the bright side," Patrick drifted on to his back, moving farther and farther away from me. "At least she's not here to tell us what to do."

I frowned. "We better get back to shore before the pills wear off and we drown." Drowning was one of my biggest fears.

"Or worse." He said in a squeal, trying to mimick me.

I shot foward, shoving him as best as I could in the dragging water. Patrick swam further down, trying to get away from me. He kept swimming until he literally disappeared in the dark mist below. "Patrick Pan, get back here!" If he didn't come back, I planned to ditch him.

However, an aching silence answered me.

I felt a pit in my stomach that told me something was very wrong. "Patrick?"

Still no answer.

I didn't want to go too deep in the ocean. If the pill wore off, I wouldn't be able to get back to the surface. I'd drown in the deep depths of the ocean. Just thinking about it had me terrified - but I couldn't just leave him there.

I pushed myself downwards, swimming deeper and deeper. My whole body seemed to shake and I felt cool water pass me by.

I could see a labryinth - like maze becoming more clear in my eyes. It twisted into odd angles and I couldn't even see the end of it. I gulped but kept going, calling out Patrick's name. However, I still recieved no answer.

I found the opening and plunged myself down on to the sea floor. The sea floor meant I'd gone as deep as I could go. We were at the bottom.

Pressing my feet against the smooth surface, I realized I could - sort of - walk. I raised my hands up for balance and then used the walls of the labryinth to steady myself.

Now I wasn't about to enter a neverending maze to find Patrick Doofus. So I called out his name again. A wave brushed past me and I didn't know it was possible to shiver in the ocean. 'I'm going to have to go in there', I thought angrily.

"Patrick!" I cried again but this time it sounded like a plea for help."Don't make me come after you!"

Then I heard it -  a scream that sounded femimine but I could still tell it was Patrick. Another wave sent me toppling over and my body softly hit the sea floor. Above me, to my relief, Patrick came swimming out of the labryinth, a frightened look on his face.

He yanked me up by the arm. and started pulling me upwards.

"What were you doing in there?" I exclaimed, trying to loosen his hold.

"Lets get out of here!"

"Why?"

A deafening smash answered me. I looked back and found myself screaming louder than I ever had in my entire life; the most biggest shark I'd ever seen came crashing through the labryinth, blood dripping from its mouth.
