Chapter 12: Terrence

Today, Yani and I are going shopping. She wants some new clothes and toys, so we’re going to the mall. “Dad, come on! You’re taking forever! Just like a girl.” Yani teased. I rolled my eyes at her. Yani had on a pink shirt with white skinneys and her black toms. I was rocking my YMCMB shirt, regular denim jeans and my red and white J’s. I slipped my Bulls snapback on my head, and I was ready to go. “Finally!” Yani said walking towards the car once we left out of the house. “You know I liked it better when you couldn’t talk.” I said sticking my tongue out at her. Yani hopped in the back of my white Suburban and I slid in the front. “I hope you brought a lot of money.” Yani said. I looked at her from my rearview mirror then back at the road. “Why is that?” I said. “Because I have a long list of things I want. I want some Uggs and some more Jordans. Oh, and I want some more Toms.” Yani said. “Uhh, do you have money for that entire list lil girl?” I said. “No.” Yani poked her lip out, “I thought you had it.”

“Nope. I’m broke.”

“Stop lying!” Yani said. I chuckled a bit. After about twenty-five minutes of excessive traffic, we finally arrived at the mall. Yani damn near hopped out when I was still parking. “Slow down Yani damn.” I said. We walked through the mall going to several stores. We first stopped at Justice; Yani wanted to get new shirts and scrunches for her hair. “Hold this daddy.” She picked up a sparkly pink shirt and a blue and black shirt. “I’m not holding that. What I look like?” I said folding my arms. “You look like the man that’s about to hold these shirts.” Yani gave me the shirts. “Talk to me like that again and you won’t be getting these shirts.” I said seriously. “Sorry.” Yani said, “Can you please hold these shirts for me?” I grabbed the shirts, “Fine.”

Yani kept picking up shirt after shirt. By the time she was finished, I was covered with shirts and glitter. A group of women were laughing and giggling at me. “You daughter is adorable.” One of them said. I smiled, “Thank you.”

“Come on daddy! I’m ready to go.” Yani said impatiently. “Aight girl chill out and wait.” I brought the clothes to the register. The clerk rung it up and said, “You total is 213.75.” I looked at Yani. “What the hell did you pick up?”

Yani covered her mouth, “Daddy, your language.” I rolled my eyes at her and swiped my black card. This girl is gonna be the death of me.
