We happily chatted walking close to each other. I hadn't talked to him in so long and it felt like a huge burden had lifted off my shoulders. The atmosphere between us had changed. I wasn't his senior and he wasn't my junior. I wasn't the head hazer and he wasn't a freshman. Though this type of relationship was different to anything I had experienced, it felt right.
'Do you have your calculus exam tomorrow right?'
'Yes, P'Arthit.'
'Look at the problems that the professor gave as examples on the worksheets. She likes to ask those.'
He smiled and his entire face lit up. It made me happy to see him happy because of me.
'Kong...eat properly. You lost weight.' I felt guilty because I knew it was because of me that I made him lose his sleep and appetite.
'P'Arthit...it's not your fault. We just needed time to understand each other.'
I smiled because I was glad he didn't put me in a position where he pressured me into making a decision of whether I should take the next step in making this relationship something more than being senior and junior. He didn't crowd me and I was glad for it. When I thought back to it, he gave me space. He probably needed time to sort things too.
'Thank you Kong for giving me time to figure it out...sorry it took so long.'
He shook his head and smiled more.
'Well okay...I'll see you at school.'
I felt his hand on my shoulder and I looked up at him. His face was so close. My skin felt hot under my shirt.
'Good night Ai'Oon. Dream of me.'
I felt his breath tickle my neck.
'Kong!'
He laughed and ran off leaving me blushing.
THE NEXT DAY
We had a busy morning of classes and I felt like I was able to focus. Even Knott noticed my behaviour.
'Hey, Arthit...you look back to normal now.'
'Hmm...'
'Dreamt of something good last night?'
I choked on the water I was drinking because I remembered what Kong said to me last night. I blushed a little.
'Why did you turn so red? It's not that hot.'
I saw Kong and his friends coming into the cafeteria. They were walking around looking for a table. I was going to get up to make space but then Bright yelled to them first.
'Hey, Aim! Here. This table is free.'
'Sawadeekhap P'Bright.'
I saw Kong smile at me a little and I did too.
