As I listened to what the guard was saying it began to sink in. Everywhere that I walked was unfamiliar to me. The people dressed in peculiar clothes and tapestries. The language that came from their mouths was almost like a foreign language. Was this actually real, had I stepped out of those doors into another century. I felt as though I was going mad inside because that was beyond human capabilities, no one can time travel, let alone me. Yes it happened in the movies but not to somebody like myself, not to anyone in general. Oh my god oh my flipping god. How am I supposed to get back home? What if I stay trapped and die here? Never had a proper romance, never got married or have children or see my family again. My thoughts were endless. I coughed and began to speak in a boisterous tone "So 'guard' you're telling me that I'm in the 15th century with king henry viii on the throne with no sanitation or hygiene?" He was taken aback. "What on earth is the word 'sanitation' and 'hygiene,' I would also appreciate it if you addressed me by my real name, 'Edward.' I had to laugh at the way he pronounced it but of course he wouldn't know that as it hasn't yet been discovered . "Well I would say it was nice to meet you but considering you nearly pulled my hair out and pushed me up against a wall I don't feel obliged to be nice to you. But yes that's why the streets smell and the floors are dirty. The people in the streets smell of sewage. That is unsanitary and unhygienic." Rather than praising my wit and smarts he went on to insult me. "You must be a witch, how would you know these things otherwise?" He gave me a suspicious look. "Well yes I'm going to hop on my broomstick and steal little children then turn them into cakes whilst making a potion of some sort." It looked as though he believed me and took a step backwards. "Oh my I'm JOKING. Bloody hell." I just want go home. Please god. "I do not understand the words you say, you are a puzzle." We carried on like this for half an hour or so.
Edward led me toward a gigantic building which was revealed to be kensington palace. I thought that I recognised it. It was beautiful by all means and looked so grand standing proudly there. The gates were different to what I remembered last. I visited it on a school trip three years back to learn about the infamous king henry viii. To my horror I had forgotten the ground that we were walking on wasn't road or path it was purely stone cobbles. No car to be heard or seen. I've never heard London to be so peaceful. Ok, I'm starting to think that this isn't a movie set anymore. I plucked up the courage to ask Edward the question that had been sitting in my mind. "Please can you be honest and just tell me that this is all a joke and hasn't been planned?I mean, how did you manage to get rid of all of the cars, change the houses and even the roads! You've even managed to make London smell like pure crap. Hundreds of people have walked by dressed in bizarre clothing, even the palace looks different! The bloody palace!" Please just give me a sane answer but he continued to make that dumbfounded expression. "Your a very peculiar and erratic girl. The king will frown with distaste." With that last word the guards at either sides of the gates swung them open and urged us to walk through. There it was, kensington palace standing before me, yet for some odd reason my heart was beating faster than ever before and my palms were sweating with nerves. There was something eery about this place. Something very strange was going on.
