"Tobi-chan~" (Y/N)'s sing song voice fluttered through the nearly empty classroom. There were fifteen minutes before class started, so many of the students were still milling about after early club meetings. "Did you do the homework?"
Kageyama looked over at her, his annoyance apparent on his face. "I'm not letting you copy my homework again. We both got in trouble last time remember?"
She recalled it well. They'd almost got banned from club activities for a whole week. They managed to get off the hook because of the upcoming Interhighs. There was no time to waste on punishment.
"Yeah, but that's just 'cause I forgot to change some of the answers."
"You can't copy it." Kageyama said firmly. He looked out the window he was sat beside. "Do it yourself. You have time before class starts."
(Y/N) groaned, but he was right. She shouldn't rely on him to do her work for her. She pulled out her notebook and the work sheet and began with mathematic formulas. They were simple enough, but (Y/N) found them tediously boring.
"Um, excuse me. Oikawa-san, is it?"
(Y/N) looked up, and Kageyama turned his head to see who approached. A girl in their year, but a few classes above stood in front of her desk. She had round brown eyes and a timid smile.
"You look really pretty today."
(Y/N) smiled cheerfully. "Thank you, Eri-chan!"
Kageyama looked towards the girl, a surprised look on his face. He heard that tone of voice many times before, from both her and her brother. She wasn't being friendly at all and poor Eri was none the wiser.
"Are you doing anything after school today?" Eri asked, her gaze falling to the ground and her cheeks tinting pink.
(Y/N) narrowed her eyes at her. Eri would often to come in to inquire of her older brother, not to make friends. This time was likely no different. "I have practice." (Y/N) answered. "Why, what's up?" She still sounded friendly, despite the suspicion evident on her face.
"I was wondering, um... I needed help with this English lesson."
It clicked for (Y/N) immediately, and an amused smile spread across her lips. "Oh, really?"
Eri smiled. (Y/N) could tell by the look on her face that she thought she was winning. "Yeah! I just can't seem to get it, and I thought we could hang out after school and you could tutor me. Maybe after practice, we can go to your house and—"
"It's funny you're asking me for help, Eri-chan." (Y/N) said through a giggle. "Since you're in class five, and I'm only in class three, what you're learning is far more advanced. You shouldn't be asking me for help." (Y/N) smiled kindly. "You're supposed to be smarter than that."
Eri's face turned bright red and she seemed to be at a loss for words. (Y/N) enjoyed the spectacle of watching her fight for something to say. Just when she found something, (Y/N) cut her off.
"Don't worry. Maybe your plan to see my brother will be better next time. Or, you could just talk to him after one of his games! Though I doubt he'd even stop to talk to you." Her voice was still as kind as ever, but her words cut Eri like white hot knives. (Y/N) was all too aware, and it only made it easier to sound happy.
Eri stormed off before (Y/N) could damage her ego any further and (Y/N) stood from her seat, not quite finished with her yet.
"Hey," Said Kageyama. "Class is about to start. You'll be late."
Heeding his words, (Y/N) stayed where she was, but still called after her. "Bye-bye, Eri-chan! Have a good day!"
"Hey!" Kageyama pulled on her arm and plopped her back into her seat. "Quit it. You're being annoying."
