Chapter 13
Curiosity Killed the Wolf
"Ronan, welcome to your new home." Peter's words echoed in my mind as I stepped over the door step, finally entering my new so called home.
I was standing in a large foyer. The floor was a pristine cream colored marble, and the walls were all a dark mahogany wood. There was a large chandelier looming over the center of the room. It was made completely out of iron with lit candles on every end. It looked downright creepy and dangerous if you asked me. Would the candle wax fall on my head?
Watching my step, I continued through the first hall, through a large archway, where another grand room opened up. It looked identical to the last one, except this one was bigger and it had two very large curved staircases lining the sides.
There seemed to be hallways and doors connecting to this room unending. How was there any room for just plain wall space?
I jumped when my shoulder was tapped on. "Isn't it beautiful?"
I turned to see Arty grinning at me rather widely. "Yeah, I guess," I replied quietly.
I didn't really know how to feel about all of this. Part of me was ecstatic to be technically moving in with my mate, that part of me being my wolf. The other part, the sane part, however, felt so helpless and unwanted. I thought at least maybe I could get Vlad to turn his opinion of having a mate around, but I guess not. He really wasn't kidding when he called us mere business partners. I honestly don't know if it would've been better at my old pack with Alpha Prick, than it is right here, being kept behind closed doors from my mate.
"You guess?!" Arty asked me horrified, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Uhm, it's very beautiful?" I tried again.
"Ahhh, you'll come around soon enough. Follow me, I'm going to take you to you're room."
Arty walked to the right and started down a slender hallway, I hurriedly followed after him, not wanting to get lost and run into any pack members just yet.
"Uh, so no offense, but where's Peter?"
It's not that I didn't mind Arty showing me around, but I've grown really comfortable around Peter. Plus, he seemed so excited to get me to the palace, even given the circumstances. Why is he not here?
"So, uh, touchy subject, but..uh," Arty stuttered.
"But..what?" I questioned cautiously.
"Because you're an omega here you can't talk to Peter. He's the top tracker of this pack, therefore his rank is too prestigious for you. He didn't want to tell you before because he had already dropped a big enough bomb about the whole, servant thing. I think he should have just told you anyway, we argued about it in the car. I'm sorry."
Great. So now I don't even have Peter. I wanted to feel sad, in fact I felt really sad, but that's the problem. I felt so down and depressed that I couldn't feel anymore. The only feeling that lingered was numbness. My body and brain felt as if they were only moving robotically.
"If he can't talk to me then how come you can?"
"My brother, Eddie, and I, are the Warrior pack's top trainers. We are in charge of preparing the other warriors and pack members for combat if necessary. Because we train not only warriors but pack members as well, you may speak with me even with your status. The alpha believes in every wolf being able to at least defend themselves, which means omegas get small training too." He answered.
"Oh, what about Tyler, Demetri, and this Igor, Peter told me about?"
"No, you can't speak to Demetri or Igor, they are of too high of rank. However, Tyler, you are allowed to converse with. He's a tracker like Peter but not as powerful. Tyler is a very small wolf and human compared to most pack males. What makes him useful to the alpha is that he doesn't have a detectable scent. Well he does, but only when he wants to."
