Knock Knock Knock.
Squeeeeeek.
"Helloooooo," a girl's voice carries through the house.
dust dances in the air, reinvigorated by the opening of the door.
"Anybody hooooome?"
clup clup clup against the wood floors.
"C'mon, I know you're there."
Not in this room. Not in this one either.
"The big gathering is happening today. You need to come out."
As the blond girl, in her twenties, walks into the main room, she notices a note, written and left on the table.
I know today's the big day, but I'm out with some friends. I'll be back before you know it. But if not, I'm counting on you to keep them waiting, just a little longer. I hope I can trust you Jay.
~Avrel.
The girl sighs, but smiles.
"I can't keep doing your job for you, Avi."
With a quick shake of her head, she runs out the door to the plaza. She knew she was going to do his job for him, and she knew he knew she would, too.
~~~
"They all think you're dead," a familiar male voice says, while sitting atop a rock on a forested hill. Sunlight streams down with a gentle late morning breeze.
"I think it's better that way," a similarly familiar female voice responds. "Even though they expended their life force for me, they still think I'm dead. Speaking of, I didn't think it was possible to age with genesis." Avrel, Aleissia, and Nikal had all aged slightly, trying to save Alexandria. They all have bodies of early twenty year olds, now.
"Can we never tell them?"
"Maybe in time. But I have a more important mission."
He snickers. "Time," he echos. "Time is bendable. How can I trust what you say?"
"You'll know. Now I think you better be off to your big ceremony."
"They're probably waiting for me." He nods and gets up from the rock. A few steps away, he turns back to her.
"Go, go. No excuse to be late," she nudges.
"Alright, alright," he retorts. "Goodbye, Alex."
"No," she snaps as she stands up. "Try 'see you later'."
He smiles. "See ya later, Alexandria."
"We'll meet again, Avrel," she says as she stands up. "And I like that normal look for you."
"Oh what, my hair? I just wanted brown hair agai-" Alexandria slowly kisses him on the lips.
"Good luck." Her last words before she takes off to who knows where. Her smile still plastered on the inside of Avrel's eyes.
As the last few members of the crowd shimmy around to take seats of the massive concrete pavilion with looping arches and a big cloth covered statue, the microphone boots up and hisses.
"Hello? Is this working?" a man says, tapping the bulb of the microphone. Noticing the crowd's displeasure, he concludes it is.
He clears his throat and begins, "Alright, quiet down. Quiet, now. Thank you. Now it is with great honor, that I introduce the greatest heroes in all of time. My name is Damien, and from the moment I could make my own free thoughts, I've been nothing shy of engrossed with the topic of these people, though some would use the word obsessed. And yet, here I am, in front of them. They have been through hardship greater than anything we could ever imagine-" and on like this for a while.
