Marrying Mary

chapter 16

Mary sat as William pulled out the chair for her, so she could seat.
He walked over to the other side and took his seat directly opposite her.

The walk from the office down here had been short.
It was Williams idea to walk, so they could be seen together.
She was grateful no one had noticed them, she didn't want to be making headlines.

Mary knew the restaurant, it was a fancy one and a really expensive one at that.
The food and wine was great, really nice wine she thought as she almost licked her lips in front of William at the thought of the wine.

She could remember her first night here, she had been seated on the opposite side of the room.
Across from her then boyfriend, Charles.
Now that she thought about about it that night he hadn't seemed nervous, not like a man who was about to propose to a woman anyway.
She had been a fool then, still was she told herself as she looked into the eye of her fiance and he smiled at her.

Would he ever love her? She had wanted to marry for love but this...she thought waving her imaginary hand in the air, this was just one sided.
If William felt anything for her it was just friendliness and sexual attraction

"Mary..."? He called her back to earth,
She blinked her thoughts away and turned to look at him with a smile,
"What would you like to eat love?" He asked.
Mary turned to her side noticing the waiting waiter, she pretended  to go through the menu then looked up quic
" I don't know, anything is fine I guess"
William equally closed his menu and smiled at the waiter
"We would have cooks special and a bottle of wine?"
What wine sir" the waiter asked..
Mary turned her attention somewhere else as he told the waiter what he wanted.

"What were you thinking of mary" William asked after the waiter had left, she sighed as she ran her tongue over her lips to wet them.
" Nothing. Just work"
William nodded pretending to believe her.
Their wine arrived but Mary noticed William had asked for it not to be opened he had told the waiter to wait till the food arrives.

He leaned on towards Mary and held her hands.
He was nervous as f***.
He had never felt this way towards anyone and he didn't know what he felt.
But that's not what made him nervous, what he was about to do made him nervous as f***.
He pulled away as the food arrived, the waiter placed it all on the tabel; from stuffed beef to cooked mixed vegetable.
" wow" Mary exclaimed " this is much"
William smiled happy with himself for making her eyes round with excitement and wonder.
" what's the occasion mr McCain" she said as she leaned back into her seat and gave him a sly look
He laughed. " no occasion Mary, just dinner with my beautiful fiance.
Mary tried not to blush, he probably called all the women he knew beautiful.
" you can open up the bottle now" William said to the waiter.
He watched as the waiter poured their wines into their glass.
Mary picked hers and breathed it
" hmmmm. Good wine" she said
William was pleased she was impressed.
He picked up his glass and brought it up towards her.
" to us"
He said. She smiled as she clinked her glass to his then they both drank from their wine before diving into their food.

They ate in silence, Williams not wanting to talk as a result of the task ahead.

"Have been here before William " Mary said looking up from her food.
"Oh....really, when?" William asked.
Mary laughed as she narrated her break up with her ex.

"Wow" William said at the end of the story...."that must have hurt" he added
"No....not really" Mary said as she laughed. "One of the reasons I ended up in Vegas that weekend"

William smiled as he remembered her sitting across at the bar that night, and was glad he had walked up to her that night.

"Are you thinking of me Mr Mccain " Mary asked as she put a piece of beef in her mouth.
William chuckled at being caught. "Actually I was x" he watched as her cheeks turned red.
"I was drunk" she protested
"Are you drunk now Mary" he asked seriously.
Mary smiled "have barely drank my wine William"

"Marry me Mary " William said. "You're not drunk, Im not drunk. I know I promised to go slow Mary but I really can't help it, I want you."
He stood up from his chair and went down on one knee. "You can say no now Mary and we can get a divorce from our Vegas marriage but I can't promise you that ill leave you alone, because it would hurt me more that I never gave us a try"
Mary had her hand over her mouth trying to prevent herself from shouting yes, she wanted to let William finish with what he had to say.
She put her hand down infront of his as she took his hands in hers.
"Where's the ring?" she asked

William smiled, he had completely forgotten to take the ring out of his pocket.
He reached for his pocket and brought out the small jewel box
"Yes, yes, yes" marry said as he opened it
William took out one of the simplest but graceful rings Mary had ever seen and wore it on her left middle finger.

Mary stood up as he did and hugged him, but instead of a simple hug William pulled her close and kissed her.
It made her toes turn and deafened her ears she didn't even hear when the reaturant erupted with claps and shouts.
She only felt his lips on hers, and the feel of it.....she wanted him too
Finally William pulled away and Mary used the opportunity to gaze at her ring.

On her hand was a simple silver band with little pieces of diamond embedded in it. Mary saw tiny hearts emmbeded on it next to the diamonds.
"I love it" she said
"Im glad you do, there is only one of it in the world" William said as he winked. "Now lets get out of here please" he continued as he picked up her bag.

"And the food?" Mary asked shocked.
"Im hungry for something else " he said looking her in the eye.
Mary looked away shyly afraid his eyes would mirror her own emotions at the moment.
"Okay, where to now?"
"My room" he stated simply

Hello everyone, I know its been a while....
Have been so busy and as a result my updates has been slow.
But honestly that's not the main reason I haven't written in a while,
Im experiencing a writers block right now....
So I need ideas and thoughts that's why I'm using this medium to beg and encourage you guys to send messages, I may not get to read your comments but your messages i'll definitely get.
