As I got out the car I grabbed my school bag from the back seat and locked it, cautiously walking towards my house. I neared the man and noted that he had short, jet-black hair and an unreadable expression pasted on his face.
“Miss Paxton?” His voice was low and thick, but I wasn’t intimidated.
“Yes?” I answered, sounding more nervous than I would’ve liked.
“Can I ask you to step inside the car for a few minutes please? I just need to ask you a few questions.”
“I don’t think so.” I affirmed, and started towards the house.
“Miss.” I felt a hand on my upper arm and stopped, turning to look at him.
“I think if anyone should be asking questions it should be me. Who are you and why are you parked outside my house?” Feeling the anger and slight worry creep into me, I gripped my school bag tighter and tried to keep a straight face.
“That’s not important Miss Paxton. I just need to ask you some questions. Are you willing to comply?” He asked, his head tilting to the side slightly.
“What if I say no?” I asked, wondering how this may end.
“I will get my answers Miss Paxton, I can assure you. How does £50 seem to answer them?” He offered, pulling some cash out of his coat pocket.
“Are you part of the police service?” I asked, ignoring his bribe.
“Something like that. I need information Miss and I believe you have the answers I need. Are you familiar with a Mr Harry Styles?” The man asked, and I felt my eyes grow wide.
“What’s it to you? And no I’m not, I vaguely knew him but have no information on him.” I answered, partially truthfully.
“Well I believe you’re wrong Miss Paxton. Has Mr Styles ever spoken to you about his job, or anything that initially concerned you?”
“No, he didn’t.”
“Miss Paxton I would appreciate your cooperation please. We know Mr Styles left you that day at the woods on the south end of town, and that you are aware of his… reputation.” He hesitated on his last word before choosing it carefully.
“How do you know that? Who are you? I will call the police.” I threatened, feeling like I had no other options.
“We have a few answers to our questions. I just needed to see how much you knew. Thank you, Miss Paxton.” The man walked back towards his car, pulling his coat around his tall frame.
“Where’s my £50 quid?” I asked just before he got in the car, earning a small laugh from him.
“You hardly answered any of my questions love, until next time.” He nodded his head and got in his car.
