Not Guilty To Me

Jason leaned against his friend's desk, looking over the file she was showing him. She was an officer, and he was a new recruit. As a new recruit, he had to be 'tested' to see how well he can handle the prisoners. In order to do that, he had to pick one to supervise for a couple of weeks.

"I really think this one is the best choice. He doesn't cause much trouble, but there are some freedoms he gets that all the others don't," Piper explained, pushing another file over to the blonde.

He picked it up, reading the name off of it. Leo Valdez. As he flipped through the page, Jason was very intrigued.

This man, a Latino, lost his mother at a young age due to a purposeful fire in a warehouse she worked at. He was guilty for killing someone, but plead not guilty. Leo was blamed for a crime, he quotes, 'blamed and framed for.' The jury for his case was split fifty-fifty, so he earned a five year sentence. Due to good behavior, he has the chance of getting out by Christmas this year.

Jason was very intrigued. His eyes scanned the pages, wanting to keep reading, but he knew he had to watch this prisoner.

He looked up to Piper, smiling. "I want him."

"Great," she smiled back, taking the file back, grabbing her keys and gesturing for the blonde to follow her. "I'll take you to his cell so you can introduce yourself."

The new recruit felt giddy, but refused to show it. He had to show the prisoners he passed that he wasn't a pushover.

After a couple of minutes, he cleared his throat. "What are his special freedoms?"

The brunette glanced over her shoulder at him, smiling. "You'll see."

The two passed many different prisoners, male and female alike. Some cat-called or whistled at the two, but some chuckled out strange comments.

"Fresh meat, boys."

"I want Officer McLean to take me down."

"New boy's got some toughness to him. I like it."

Jason rolled his eyes, deciding to ignore them as Piper opened a door to a hallway. Except it wasn't just a hallway. This part had three different rooms, but no doors except the locked one.

"One of his freedoms?" he guessed, earning a nod.

"Sort of. The prisoners find him easy to get to, so we decided to take him from his original cell and move him here. He has his own bathroom, bedroom, and extra room."

The blonde looked in the first two rooms. The one on the left was the bedroom, a simple sheet and pillow in it. The one on the right was the bathroom.

The final room at the end of the hall on the left had a curtain closed, only revealing a few inches of the bottom. Instead of barging in, Piper knocked on the wall next to the curtain.

After a few seconds, the curtain opened, revealing a Latino man with brown-black curls, brown eyes, and tanned skin. He didn't have a shirt on, but had the normal orange pants the other prisoners wore. His fingers had different colors on them.

"Officer McLean," he nodded respectfully, locking eyes with the blonde. "Officer...?"

"Grace," Jason responded. "Officer Jason Grace."

He smiled, glancing down at his hands. "I'd offer a handshake, but I don't think you'd want paint on you."

The blonde glanced at Piper as the prisoner inched passed them, walking into the bathroom. "Paint?"

"That's not all," she smirked, turning to see the Latino walk back to them, standing right where he was a few seconds earlier.

He smiled, holding his hand out to Jason. "Leo Valdez."
