John's POV

One thing is for certain. Peggy is a lot more outgoing than I am. Giving her credit, has it not been for her, I doubt I would have ever gotten the courage to talk to the new kid.

Sweet little Peggy, however, just walked up to the desk he was sitting at, dragging me behind her. When he didn't look up, she slapped her hands onto his desk. He jumped, eyes darting up to meet hers.

"Why hello there!" Peggy said, as if she hadn't notice the boy before she had slapped the desk. He gave her a strange look.

"Um... hi?" he asked, awkwardly. He had barely said two words, but already he looked as if he wanted nothing more than this conversation to end.

"You must be the new kid!" Peggy said. I mentally facepalmed. Sometimes she could be a little... interesting.

"Uh... yeah, I'm Alexander. Alexander Hamilton." Alexander said, before turning back to his notebook. I took it as a sign he wanted to be left alone, and started to leave. Of course Peggy can't take no for an answer, and was determined to make a proper introduction.

"I'm Peggy Schuyler. Well actually, it's Margarita." Alexander looked up at her, slightly shocked. Peggy laughed.

"I know, it's annoying. So that's why people call me Peggy. And that's John Laurens." She pointed at me. I blushed slightly and gave an awkward wave, wishing instantly that she hadn't pulled me into this.

"Can he speak for himself?" Alexander asked. I sighed.

"Yes, I can. As you can see, Peggy can get a little chatty." I explained. Alexander nodded slightly, turning his attention back to Peggy.

With a sick feeling in my stomach, I recognized the look he was giving her. Alexander wasn't looking at her face, but the two ears on top of her head.

"Wow." I said, accidentally out loud. The two looked at me.

"What, John?" Peggy asked innocently. Frick.

"Nothing." I said, trying to blow it off.

"Well, it was nice to meet you, Peggy and John." Alexander said with a forced smile. Peggy didn't notice this.

"Nice to meet you! And if you need anything, we'll be around. Just ask!" Peggy chirped. I gave a stiff nod. Alexander went back to his work, as Peggy ran out of the room. Alexander looked up, and over his shoulder to watch her leave.

"My god." he muttered. "She's Jallie."

I turned to face him. "What's that supposed to mean?" His eyes widened, and he looked up at me.

"What?"

"Don't play dumb, Alexander. What's that supposed to mean? 'She's jelly'." I tried to sound intimidating. To my surprise, he rolled his eyes.

"Not 'jelly'. Jallie!" Alexander said, as if this was supposed to make me remember it. He pronounced the name like 'Allie' with a J in front of it. "Jallie Midless. She was a friend of mine. Think your Peggy, but without the ears."

"Are you trying to get yourself beat up?" I asked him. He looked concerned.

"How am I 'trying to get myself beat up'?" Alexander asked.

"No one insults Peggy on my watch."

"Insults? I never meant to be insulting, I assure you. Must I remind you that I am Animalica myself, or can you just use your eyes?" I didn't know why, but this guy was making me more and more angry with everything he said.

"Why are you being like this?"

"Like what?"

"It's your first day at the new school. You couldn't at least pretend to be nice? To care?"

It was then that he said something that stopped me in my tracks.

"Laurens, I've tried being kind. It doesn't nothing for you other than to get yourself stepped upon."

And with that, Alexander Hamilton went back to writing.

After a moment, I pulled myself out of the daze, and left the classroom.

...

I found Peggy putting her jacket back into her locker.

"There you are! I turned around and you were gone!" Peggy said.

"You did kinda run out of the classroom randomly." I snapped. Peggy looked concerned.

"John, what's the matter?" she asked me.

"I don't like that new kid. He's bad news, I can feel it." I told her. Peggy laughed.

"John, that's a bit overdramatic."
she said.

"You left, Pegs, you weren't there. You didn't see it. Alexander Hamilton is a pretentious asshole."

"Someday, you're gonna look back and realise how wrong you are." A small smile flashed across her features. "Perhaps at the Hamilton-Laurens wedding."

I glared at her. "Just because I'm gay doesn't mean you can ship me with every male in the world, Schulyer. I swear, coming out to you was the worst decision I've ever made."

Peggy rolled her eyes, sighing, and shaking her head.

"Ah, my Laurens. Just you wait."
