Dezi's POV
I walk through the school hallways, earning glares.
     A mute.
     That's all I am.
I get to my locker and get my books.
A boy stand beside me and I wince.
     "Hey."
     I wave.
     "You alright?"
I nod and shut my locker. I turn away and start walking.
"What's your name?" He stays by my side. "I know you're a mute."
I look up. I take out my phone.
     *Dezi.*
I type out my name and show him.
"Hello, Dezi. I'm Jeremy." He pulls out a rainbow necklace. "I'm the gay of the school. I'm the only one out of the closet so far."
I nod and show my schedule.
      "Help?"
      I nod again.
He shows me to my class and a bunch of people glare at us.
When I sit down I'm guessing a popular girl sits next to me. "Hey. I'm Lisa."
      I wave.
      "What's your name?"
      I write it down.
"You're the mute. Gross." She leaves.
I sigh and lay my head down.

At lunch, I look around and spot Jeremy. I turn away and go outside and don't eat.
     Jeremy sits beside me. "Eat."
I take out my phone. *Not hungry.*
"Dezi, what can I do to help?"
*Make everyone stop looking at me.*
     "I don't know how-"
*Forget it.* I get up and walk away. I go to my classes and ignore everyone.
"Hey, you're Dezi, right?" A girl in punk fashion walks up to me.
     I nod.
"Well, Dez, we can be friends. I went mute for awhile. Were you born like this?"
     I shake my head. *Trauma.*
"Oh.." She sits next to me. "Well, I'm Tina." She grins and I smile a little. "There's a smile. Everytime I've seen you, you never were smiling. Lets be friends."
     I nod. *Okay.*
"And maybe I can help you fight being mute just a little?"
*Sounds great. The best that will happen is me going in and out of mutism.*
"I'll do what I can." She nudges me playfully and I giggle. "Well sound can come out! Why not words?" She jokes.
*I want to know the same thing.*
