Dezi's POV
I get dressed the next day and go downstairs to see Jeremy. I smile and wave as I make a bowl of cereal and sit at the table.
He sits in front of me. "I'm glad you're smiling."
I shrug and eat. I finish and put my bowl in the sink and wait for him.
He finishes and drives us to school. He takes me to the library and we separate.
I'm standing up from getting a book when I knock into someone.
They grab my arm to make sure I don't fall.
I pull away and fumble with my phone. *Sorry.* I take a deep breath.
He meets my eyes. "Its okay. I'm guessing you're Dezi. The girl I'm not allowed to talk to."
I take him in. He's a punk...or a goth... *I'm not a people person. I should go.* I run off and check out the book. I tie my hoodie around my waist and spot Jeremy. I rush over and wave, though he doesn't notice and I nudge him.
He looks up and sighs as he stands and we leave. He takes me to class and leaves me.At lunch, Jeremy sits with others as I eat alone. I'm glad I'm used to it... I get up and grab my stuff. I go to the front office and check myself out. I go to the hospital and find Tina's room. She's gone... I rush to find a nurse.
She rushes to her room with me and I start crying.
I don't think as I text Jer to get to the hospital.
"Dezi, she's in therapy. We found her..." A doctor says as he walks up.
I nod and burst into tears.
Jeremy finds me and holds me.
*Its fine. She's okay...* I take shaky breaths.
He rubs my back and we calm down. After a few minutes, Tina returns to her room. "Hey, guys. Heard about Dezi's scare. I'm okay, girl." She hugs me. "I'm doing a lot better." She sits on the bed and looks at us in the chairs. "Dezi, why did you leave school to see me?"
I don't move to get my phone.
She sighs. "Dez. Tell me. Please."
I get my phone. *I wanted to see you. I haven't seen you lately. I was scared you were dead.*
"Why would you think that?"
"Dezi tried to save a girl and she died. She was a mute like her...but she had the ability to talk." Jeremy joins Tina and holds her hand. "But I did miss you."
She smiles and looks at me. "It wasn't your fault, was it?"
I shrug as tears fill my eyes. *I don't wanna talk about it.*
She nods. "I'm proud of you for trying."
